Binagadi Raion
Binagadi ( or ''Şestoy''; also ''Binagadi'', ''Binoghad'' or ''Shestoy'') is a raion in Baku, Azerbaijan. The rayon has a population of 240,800, of which 112,000 are in the municipality. Binagadi district (former Kirov region) is located in Baku administrative area and is located 10.5 km from the city center, in the North-West of the Absheron Peninsula. Territory is 147,06 sq. M, administrative center is M. Rasulzadeh settlement. Name The former name of the district was the Kirov region and was named "Binagadi district" on April 29, 1992, by the decision of the National Council of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Demographics The number of permanent residents living in the region is 264,600 and the actual population is about 400,000. Raion
A raion (also spelt rayon) is a type of administrative unit of several post-Soviet states. The term is used for both a type of subnational entity and a division of a city. The word is from the French (meaning 'honeycomb, department'), and is commonly translated as ' district' in English. Absheron Peninsula
The Absheron Peninsula () is a peninsula in Azerbaijan. It is the location of Baku, the most populous city of the country, and the Baku Metropolitan Area, with its satellite cities Sumqayit and Khyrdalan. It extends eastward into the Caspian Sea, and reaches a maximum width of . Azerbaijan's shape is often compared to an eagle, with the Absheron Peninsula forming its beak as it extends into the Caspian Sea. Though technically the easternmost extension of the Caucasus Mountains, the landscape is only mildly hilly, a gently undulating plain that ends in a long spit of sand dunes known as Shah Dili, also known as the Shah Spit which is the easternmost point of mainland Azerbaijan, now declared the Absheron National Park. Hocasan
Khojasan () is a settlement and municipality in Baku, Azerbaijan. It has a population of 5,100. History The name of Khojasan settlement was mentioned for the first time in V-VI centuries. Located on the ancient Silk Road, this village is called Khoja Hasan in some sources, and Haji Hasan in others. Historical sources mention that this village was named after Khoja Hasan, a well-known merchant of his time who lived in the 17th century. Historian Sara Ashurbeyli mentioned the name of this village as "Khojasan" and indicated its meaning as a tax collection point during the Arab era. The back part of the village, located on the ancient Silk Road, is surrounded by the Gobu mountains, and the front part is surrounded by the mountains called Small and Big Stone.
