Billy Ray Smith Sr.
Billy Ray Smith Sr. (January 27, 1935 – March 21, 2001) was an American professional football player who was a defensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL) from 1957 to 1970. He played college football for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Smith was born in Augusta, Arkansas. Early life Smith was born in Augusta, Arkansas on January 27, 1935, to J.D. and Louise Smith. He attended Augusta High School where he played football under coach Curtis King from 1950 to 1952. In 1952, he made the All-American Prep team and in 1953, Smith played in the High School All-American game. Smith was also a boxer. He was a Golden Gloves regional champion in 1953 and 1954, and won the South Heavyweight Championship in 1955 and 1956. Bowden Wyatt
Clarence Bowden Wyatt (October 4, 1917 – January 21, 1969) was an American football player and coach. Wyatt played college football at the University of Tennessee and was later the head football coach at three schools, the University of Wyoming (1947–1952), the University of Arkansas (1953–1954), and his alma mater, Tennessee (1955–1962). He compiled a 99–56–5 record in 16 seasons as a head coach. In Wyoming, Wyatt turned around a team that had struggled under previous coach Bunny Oakes and had operated intermittently in the previous years because of World War II. His turnaround plan involved a round-the-clock training regimen, one that defensive back Marv Levy would later note did not allow players adequate time to complete their academic studies (leading Levy to transfer to Coe College). The Golden Gloves of America is an organization that promotes annual competitions of amateur boxing in the United States, in which winners are awarded a belt and a ring, and the title of national champion.
