Billy Klippert is a Canadian rock singer-songwriter who rose to fame via the first season of Canadian Idol, in which he finished third. Career His self-titled debut album on the Orange Record Label reached 36th spot on Canada's top 100 albums chart in July 2004. Canadian Idol
''Canadian Idol'' is a Canadian reality television competition show which aired on CTV, based on the British show '' Pop Idol''. The show was a competition to find the most talented young singer in Canada, and was hosted by Ben Mulroney. Jon Dore was the "roving reporter" for the first three seasons (appearing in comedy skits throughout the show). Elena Juatco (a season 2 contestant) assumed the role for season four, Dave Kerr had the role in season five and Jully Black in season six. The show began with a cross-Canada tour in which singers audition in front of four judges: Jake Gold of Toronto, Sass Jordan of Montreal, Quebec, Zack Werner of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Farley Flex of Ajax, Ontario. Eventually the performers were narrowed down to 10 finalists (11 in season one due to a near-tie), with each competitor performing live. '' RPM'' and '' Billboard'' are the biggest publications to have published Canada's official charts for decades. However, the first Canadian music chart was published by radio station CHUM AM in 1957. The oldest music publication in Canada, ''RPM'' launched music charts in 1964, compiling the country's top albums and singles. It remained the nation's music industry standard chart until they ceased publication in November 2000. Nielsen SoundScan began tracking retail sales in November 1996. Levon (song)
"Levon" is a song written by English musician Elton John and songwriter Bernie Taupin, and performed by John. It was recorded on 27 February 1971, and was released on John's 1971 album, '' Madman Across the Water''. Backing vocals are provided by Tony Burrows. Paul Buckmaster wrote the orchestral arrangements and conducted the orchestra. The song reached number 24 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100, and peaked at number six on the Canadian ''RPM'' singles chart. History According to Gus Dudgeon, Taupin named the character in the song after the Band's co-founder, drummer and singer Levon Helm. The Band were apparently John and Taupin's favourite group at the time. In 2013, however, Taupin said that the song was unrelated to Helm. According to fellow Band member Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm did not like the song, quoting him as saying "Englishmen shouldn't fuck with Americanisms".
