William Cooper (1826β1871) was an English accountant who founded the accountancy practice of Cooper Brothers, now a part of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Career Cooper started his professional career as a clerk at Quilter, Ball & Co. In 1854, he left the firm to establish his own practice at No. 13 George Street in London. In 1858, his brother Arthur joined the practice and the name was changed to ''W. & A. Cooper.'' William Heaton Cooper RA (6 October 1903–1995) was an English impressionistic landscape artist who worked predominantly in watercolours, most famous for his paintings of the Lake District. Since the 1950s, he has become known as one of the most celebrated British landscape artists of the 20th century. Life Heaton Cooper was born in Coniston, Lancashire, in the English Lake District in 1903, the third child to a Norwegian mother, Mathilde, and the landscape artist Alfred Heaton Cooper. William Skinner Cooper (25 August 1884 β 8 October 1978) was an American ecologist. Cooper received his B.S. in 1906 from Alma College in Michigan. In 1909, he entered graduate school at the University of Chicago, where he studied with Henry Chandler Cowles, and completed his Ph.D. in 1911. His first major publication, "The Climax Forest of Isle Royale, Lake Superior, and Its Development" appeared in 1913. Career Cooper served briefly in 1914-1915 as a lecturer in plant ecology at Stanford University before beginning his long career in the botany department at the University of Minnesota, where he taught from 1915 to 1951. Among his students at Minnesota were Henry J. Oosting, Murray Fife Buell, Rexford F. Daubenmire, Frank Edwin Egler and Arnold M. Schultz; the latter went on to teach "Ecosystemology" at U.C. William Cooper (1798β1864) was an American naturalist, conchologist (shell zoologist) and collector. Early life Cooper studied zoology in Europe from 1821 to 1824, and afterwards travelled to Nova Scotia, Kentucky and the Bahamas collecting specimens. Career Although he was not an author himself his specimens were of great help to others, such as John James Audubon, Charles Lucien Bonaparte and Thomas Nuttall. Cooper was one of the founders of the New York Lyceum of Natural History (later the New York Academy of Sciences), and the first American member of the Zoological Society of London. Bonaparte named the Cooper's hawk for him, after Cooper collected a specimen of it in 1828. William Brown Cooper (1811β1900) was an American portrait painter from the state of Tennessee. Early life William Brown Cooper was born in 1811 near Carthage in Smith County, Tennessee. His brother was the painter Washington Bogart Cooper (1802β1888). He was educated at the National Academy Museum and School in New York City as well as in Paris and Rome for three years. Career Back in the United States, he started his career as a painter, and was active in Washington, D.C., St. Louis, Chicago, New Orleans, Little Rock, Arkansas, Natchez, Mississippi and Tennessee.
