Billy Campfield
William "Billy" Campfield (born August 20, 1956) is a former American football running back in the National Football League for the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants. He played in Super Bowl XV in 1981. He played college football at the University of Kansas and was drafted in the eleventh round of the 1978 NFL Draft. Early years Campfield graduated from Derby High School in Derby, Kansas, in 1974. He was a four-year letterman as a running back at Kansas, averaging over 6 yards every time he touched the ball and scoring 12 career touchdowns. Professional career Philadelphia Eagles Campfield was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the eleventh round of the 1978 NFL Draft. He was waived on August 22, 1983. A running back (RB) is a member of the offensive backfield in gridiron football. The primary roles of a running back are to receive handoffs from the quarterback to rush the ball, to line up as a receiver to catch the ball, and block. There are usually one or two running backs on the field for a given play, depending on the offensive formation. A running back may be a halfback (in certain contexts also referred to as a "tailback" — see below), a wingback or a fullback. 1978 NFL Draft
The 1978 NFL draft was the procedure by which National Football League teams selected amateur college football players. It is officially known as the NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting. The draft was held May 2–3, 1978, at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City, New York. The league also held a supplemental draft after the regular draft and before the regular season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had the first overall pick in the 1978 draft, by virtue of their 2–12 record in 1977.
