Andrew Billingsley
Andrew Billingsley, Ph.D. (born March 20, 1926) is an American sociologist, author, lecturer, and college professor who served as the 8th President of Morgan State University from 1975 to 1984. Biography Billingsley was born on March 20, 1926 in Marion, Alabama, the son of Silas and Lucy Billingsley. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946. After his military service, he obtained his A.B. degree from Grinnell College in 1951. Thereafter, he obtained his M.S. degree from Boston University in 1956, and his Ph.D. from Brandeis University in 1964. While at Brandeis University, Billingsley met his future wife, Amy Loretta Tate, who was a fellow student. They were married in 1961 and had two children. JoJo Billingsley
Deborah Jo Billingsley (May 28, 1952 – June 24, 2010) was an American singer, soloist, songwriter and recording artist. She was best known for her work with The Honkettes, backing vocalists for the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. Lynyrd Skynyrd Billingsley was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to Doc and Hazel Billingsley. The family soon moved to Senatobia, Mississippi from Harmontown, Mississippi, where she was raised. In December 1975 she was hired, along with Cassie Gaines and Leslie Hawkins, as backing singers for the Southern Rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, whose leader, Ronnie Van Zant, dubbed them "The Honkettes". An October 20, 1977 airplane crash killed several members of the band and road crew, but Billingsley was the only band member not on the flight. At the time, she was under a doctor's care in Senatobia, Mississippi, dealing with health problems brought about by substance abuse. John Billingsley (1747–1811) was an agricultural pioneer in 18th century Somerset, England. The writer of the 1794 Survey of Somerset, Billingsley was a leading agriculturalist who was one of the founders of the Bath and West Society, known today as the Royal Bath and West of England Society. He lived all his life at Ashwick Grove. Family life He was born in 1747, the grandson of Nicholas Billingsley, a Presbyterian dissenter who was minister at Ashwick from 1699 to 1729.
