Billingham Railway Station
Billingham is a railway station on the Durham Coast Line, which runs between Newcastle railway station, Newcastle and Middlesbrough railway station, Middlesbrough via Hartlepool railway station, Hartlepool. The station, situated north-west of Middlesbrough, serves the town of Billingham, Borough of Stockton-on-Tees in County Durham, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains. History The station is a modern-style halt on the line and was opened on Monday 7 November 1966 to replace the town's original grander station located further west towards Norton, County Durham, Norton; this closed the previous day and was subsequently demolished in the early 1970s. Norton, also known as Norton-on-Tees, is a market town in the Borough of Stockton-on-Tees, in County Durham, England. The suburbs of Roseworth and Ragworth are notable areas of the town. Nunthorpe Railway Station
Nunthorpe is a railway station on the Esk Valley Line, which runs between and via Nunthorpe. The station, situated south-east of Middlesbrough, serves the village of Nunthorpe, Middlesbrough in North Yorkshire, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains. One of the two passing loops on the line is located here and there is a level crossing at the eastern end. The signal box that operates it also supervises the movements of trains on the entire branch and remotely controls the junction further down the line at Battersby. A tram-train or dual-system tram is a type of light rail vehicle that both meets the standards of a light rail system, and also national mainline standards. Esk Valley Line

In the initial phases the services would have been heavy rail mostly along existing alignments. The later phase would have introduced tram-trains to allow street running. The project was backed by all the local authorities through which the system would have run: Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees. Support was also forthcoming from the Department for Transport. The project was cancelled due to lack of funding, with the focus moving to the Northern Rail franchise. Of the original Tees Valley Metro project, only the construction of a new station at James Cook University Hospital in 2014 has come to fruition, as well as the redevelopment of Hartlepool Station in 2024. Eastern Region Of British Rail
