Bill McHenry
Bill McHenry (born 1972) is an American jazz saxophonist and composer. He is the leader of the Bill McHenry Quartet and has released over a dozen albums under his own name, in addition to collaborating on many more. Early life McHenry was born in Blue Hill, Maine, in 1972. He attended the Interlochen Arts Academy, and went on to study at the New England Conservatory of Music. Later life and career McHenry moved to New York in 1992. His recording debut as a leader was ''Rest Stop'', with Ben Monder, Chris Higgins and Dan Reiser in 1997. It was followed by ''Graphic'' two years later, with Ben Monder, Reid Anderson and Gerald Cleaver. In 2002 he recorded his music with Paul Motian and that led to appearances at the Village Vanguard and two more albums, Roses and Ghosts of the Sun, also with Ben Monder and Reid Anderson. Blue Hill, Maine
Blue Hill is a town in Hancock County, Maine, United States, located on Blue Hill Bay. The population was 2,792 at the 2020 census. It is home to the Blue Hill Public Library, Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, George Stevens Academy, the Blue Hill Harbor School, The Bay School, New Surry Theatre, Kneisel Hall, Bagaduce Music Lending Library, Seaside Cemetery, the Kollegewidgwok Yacht Club, the Shaw Institute, and the Blue Hill Country Club. The town also hosts the annual Blue Hill Fair. History It was one of six townships granted by the Massachusetts General Court to David Marsh and 351 others for their service in the French and Indian War. Called Plantation Number 5, it was first settled in 1762 by Captain Joseph Wood and John Roundy from Andover, Massachusetts, who built homes on Mill Island at the tidal falls. Avishai Cohen (trumpeter)
Avishai Cohen (; born May 23, 1978) is a New York City-based jazz musician and composer from Tel Aviv, Israel. Biography Cohen was born in Tel Aviv, Israel. He grew up in a musical family: his sister, Anat Cohen, Anat, played clarinet and his brother, Yuval Cohen, Yuval, soprano saxophone. At the age of eight, Avishai asked his mother if he could begin taking trumpet lessons. At age ten, Avishai began playing with the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, Rimon School Big Band. He recalls, "I had a box I stood on." As a teenager Avishai toured with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra. Avishai Cohen attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. After graduating from Berklee, Cohen went on to win third place in the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Trumpet Competition in 1997.
