Bilan Media
Bilan Media is a Somali people, Somali media composed exclusively of women. Launched in 2022 and led by Nasrin Mohamed Ibrahim, it is primarily dedicated to social issues affecting Somalia. History Somalia is the most dangerous country in Africa for journalists. Bilan Media was founded in April 2022 with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and is composed of a team of six journalists. Shortly before the launch of Bilan Media, one of the group's journalists survived an Islamic terrorism, Islamist attack by the Al-Shabaab (militant group), al-Shabaab group. This is the first entirely female-run media outlet in the country, advocating for greater visibility on issues affecting women. Women in Somalia form a key part of Somali society, with clearly defined and important roles in the family and structure. Period Poverty
Period poverty is a term used to describe a lack of access to proper menstrual products and the education needed to use them effectively. In total, there are around 500 million women and girls that cannot manage their periods safely due to lack of menstrual products and for fear of shame. The American Medical Women's Association defines period poverty as "the inadequate access to menstrual hygiene tools and educations, including but not limited to sanitary products, washing facilities, and waste management". The lack of access to menstrual hygiene products can cause physical health problems, such as infections and reproductive tract complications, and can have negative social and psychological consequences, including missed school or work days and stigma. Islamic Terrorism
Islamic terrorism (also known as Islamist terrorism, radical Islamic terrorism, or jihadist terrorism) refers to terrorist acts carried out by fundamentalist militant Islamists and Islamic extremists.
