Biking Across Kansas
Biking Across Kansas (BAK) is an annual recreational and social rally for bicyclists across the state of Kansas, United States. The first Biking Across Kansas took place in June 1975 and has been held annually each year since. The route varies and has traversed all 105 counties of the state. More than 800 bicyclists from Kansas and other states participate each year. The event was founded and organized by Larry and Norma Christie from 1975 through 2001. Charlie Summers served as organizer in 2002 through 2012. In 2013, Biking Across Kansas became a 501c3 non-profit organization, overseen by a board of directors working with an executive director. Stefanie Weaver currently serves as executive director. 2023 BAK BAK 2023: June 19-17, 2023. This 539-mile, eight-day tour begins at the Colorado border near Elkhart, Kansas and ends at the Missouri border near Pleasanton, Kansas. Rallying
Rally is a wide-ranging form of motorsport with various competitive motoring elements such as speed tests (often called ''rally racing),'' navigation tests, or the ability to reach waypoints or a destination at a prescribed time or average speed. Rallies may be short in the form of trials at a single venue, or several thousand miles long in an extreme endurance rally. Depending on the format, rallies may be organised on private or public roads, open or closed to traffic, or off-road in the form of cross country or rally-raid. Competitors can use production vehicles which must be road-legal if being used on open roads or specially built competition vehicles suited to crossing specific terrain. Rallying is typically distinguished from other forms of motorsport by not running directly against other competitors over laps of a circuit, but instead in a point-to-point format in which participants leave at regular intervals from one or more start points. La Cygne, Kansas
La Cygne (pronounced ) is a city in Linn County, Kansas, United States, and situated along the Marais des Cygnes River. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 1,050. The city is named after the Marais des Cygnes River which is a French translation of an Osage appellation meaning "marsh of the swans". History La Cygne was founded in 1869 as soon as the people were assured of the building of a track for the Missouri River, Ft. Scott & Gulf Railroad. A town company was organized and purchased of land, but had only laid out as a town site. La Cygne was incorporated on January 14, 1870, and a board of trustees was appointed. Kansas () is a state in the Midwestern United States. Its capital is Topeka, and its largest city is Wichita. White Cloud (Ioway: ''Chína Maxúthga'' pronounced or ''Chína Maxúhga'' pronounced , meaning "Village Cloud-White") is a city in Doniphan County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 115. It was named for Francis White Cloud, a son of Chief White Cloud of the Iowa people. Mulberry is a city in Crawford County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 409. History Mulberry was founded about 1875 as a mining town. Atchison, Kansas
Atchison is a city and county seat of Atchison County, Kansas, United States, along the Missouri River. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 10,885. The city is named in honor of US Senator David Rice Atchison from Missouri and was the original eastern terminus of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. Syracuse is a city in and the county seat of Hamilton County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 1,826. History Syracuse began its existence as a stop on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The site was originally called Holidayburg or Holliday in honor of Cyrus K. Goodland is a city in and the county seat of Sherman County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 4,465. It was named after Goodland, Indiana. Goodland is home to Northwest Kansas Technical College. History One of the earliest pieces of recorded history relating to Goodland concerns the Kidder Massacre.
