Biggar High School
Biggar High School (Local education authority: South Lanarkshire) is a secondary school located in the town of Biggar, South Lanarkshire. It is a mixed secondary school of non-denominational religion. The current headteacher is Robert Stewart. The school was most recently inspected by Education Scotland in May 2018, and generally performed well. In 2008–2009, a new Biggar High School was erected. Pupils and staff were relocated to the new school building, situated at the former site of the playing fields on Market Road, in August 2009. A new school building was erected in 2009. There are approximately 724 pupils (age range 11–18) with a teaching staff of around 60. There are three school houses; Anderson, Burns and Wallace. In June 2007, Biggar High School won the Most Enterprising School in Scotland award. Biggar, South Lanarkshire
Biggar ( gd, Bigear ) is a town and former burgh in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, in the Southern Uplands near the River Clyde on the A702. The closest towns are Lanark and Peebles. Details The town was once served by the Symington, Biggar and Broughton Railway, which ran from the Caledonian Railway (now the West Coast Main Line) at Symington to join the Peebles Railway at Peebles. The station and signal box are still standing but housing has been built on the line running west from the station and the railway running east from the station is a public footpath to Broughton, part of the Biggar Country Path network. The new Biggar & Upper Clydesdale Museum run by the Biggar Museum Trust opened in 2015 and the Biggar Gasworks Museum is the only preserved gas works in Scotland. Druridge Bay Country Park
Druridge Bay Country Park is adjacent to Druridge Bay between Amble and Cresswell, on the coastline of Northumberland, England. The country park was opened officially in 1989, but works had been ongoing since the 1970s to remediate the site after opencast coaling operations. The park is accessible by vehicle from the A1068 road, and is located on the England Coast Path. Public transport can be taken near to the park's closest village, which involves a 15-minute walk to get to the park. History The eastern edge of the park, where it meets the coastline, was used in the Second World War as an aerial gunnery and target practice range. This was administered by the nearby RAF Acklington station. Opencasting and quarrying were the previous industries in the area, and when these ceased, the site was redeveloped into a country park. Coal has been worked in the area progressively since the 1940s, which has left several large ponds and pools as an after effect of the coaling operations. ...
