''Bigbandblast!'' (released 24 August 2004 by Real Music Records in Oslo) is an album by the big band Bigbandblast led by Børre Dalhaug. Reception ''Bigbandblast!'' sounds like the drummer of The Real Thing has assembled a hard-swinging big band, with stylistically eclectic choice of music, like Latin, backbeat, swing and heavy metal, but the common thread is preserved in that it is the same musicians playing on all the tracks. It was nominated for Spellemannprisen 2004, and received splendid reviews in the press. The review by the Norwegian newspaper ''Bergens Tidende'' awarded the album 5 stars (dice). Jarle Bernhoft
Jarle Bernhoft (; Jarle Norman Bernhoft-Sjødin; born 21 June 1976), known professionally as Bernhoft (often stylized as Bern/hoft), is a Norwegian singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer and lyricist. Bernhoft is from Nittedal in Norway. His best known songs are "Streetlights", " Shout" (a Tears for Fears cover), "Choices", "C'mon Talk" and "Stay With Me". He has also been in a number of bands, notably Explicit Lyrics and Span. In June 2014 he appeared for the first time at the Glastonbury Festival and was featured by BBC One in a special performance of his song "Wind You Up." In December 2014, it was announced that his album ''Islander'' was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album for the 2015 Grammy Awards ceremony, held on 8 February 2015. Frode Kjekstad
Frode Kjekstad (born 23 November 1974 in Lier, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz guitarist and known from collaboration and recordings with jazz musicians Lonnie Smith, Eric Alexander, Mike LeDonne, Joe Farnsworth, Byron Landham, Alberto Marsico, Frank Foster, Johnny Griffin, Don Menza, James Morrison, Mark Nightingale, Claire Martin, Deborah Brown, and Wendell Brunious. He has performed at clubs like Ronnie Scott's in London and Smoke in New York. Kjekstad is known for a virtuoso way of playing the guitar, and has done many projects in the guitar/organ/drums trio concept, but also solo, duo, trio and all kind of combos. Kåre Nymark Jr. (born 22 July 1974 in Langevåg, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz trumpeter and composer, with experience in bands such as Nymark Collective, SKRUK, The Real Thing, Gumbo, Funky Butt, Jazzmob, and the Ytre Suløens Jass-ensemble (1992–2010), and with musicians such as Earle Hyman, Nils Petter Molvaer, Silje Nergaard, Tord Gustavsen, Kristin Asbjørnsen, Arve Henriksen, John Pål Inderberg, Henning Sommerro, Arne Domnerus and Morten Gunnar Larsen. Career Nymark Jr. began playing the cornet in the school band Langevåg Skulekorps when nine years old. Børre Dalhaug
Børre Dalhaug (born 29 April 1974 in Ålesund, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician (drums), music arranger and music instructor. Career Dalhaug has worked as a musician since 1995 and done around 800 concerts with bands like The Real Thing, Staffan William-Olsson Sextet, Nora Brockstedt, Oslo Groove Company, Bohuslän Big Band among others. He has performed in Pakistan, India, Russia, France, Germany, Finland, Sweden and Denmark and participates on a number of albums. He released the Spellemannprisen nominated big band album ''BigBandBlast!'' (2004), and leads his own big band called «Børre Dalhaugs Bigbandblast» in addition to being a sideman in numerous projects. Børre also works as a composer and arranger. Paul Wagnberg
Paul (Palle) Wagnberg (born 25 April 1961 in Norrköping, Sweden) is a Swedish–Norwegian jazz musician, mostly known for his jazz-organ playing. He also sings and plays the piano in addition to composing. Career Wagnberg was born in Norrköping, Sweden. Since 1985 he has been playing professionally with his Hammond B3 organ. He is in particular known for his footwork on the bass pedals. He is known for his collaborations within the Swedish-Norwegian jazz quartet The Real Thing, comprising Wagnberg (Hammond B3 organ), Staffan William-Olsson (guitar), Børre Dalhaug (drums) and the late Sigurd Køhn (saxophone). The Real Thing is currently put on hold after Køhn died in 2004 in Thailand by the tsunami catastrophe. Anders Aarum
Anders Aarum (born 17 December 1974 in Moss, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz pianist, known from numerous albums and international collaborations like Sonny Simmons, Ola Kvernberg, Tine Asmundsen, Sigurd Køhn, Børre Dalhaug, Nora Brockstedt and Even Kruse Skatrud. Biography Aarum was educated at Agder Musikkonservatorium, Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, before he headed for Oslo in 1998. Stian Carstensen
Stian Carstensen (born 5 January 1971) is a multi-instrument Norwegian musician, entertainer and with Jarle Vespestad (drums) and Nils-Olav Johansen (vocal and guitar), central members of the Balkan-jazz orchestra Farmers market. Biography Carstensen was born in Eidsvoll and began playing the accordion at the age of nine. He first learned from his father, and later from a classical player which he attended for four years. During this time he played in Norwegian TV, radio, festivals etc. He also toured in America, playing classical music. At the same time he was into swing jazz, and played standard tunes with his father, who was also a bass player. When Carstensen was 15 he started to play electric guitar in a rock band. After a while he resumed his interest in jazz and formed a trio with some local artists. Even Kruse Skatrud (born 18 August 1977) lecturer at the University of Oslo, a Norwegian Jazz musician, composer, Music arranger and Orchestra leader. He is the son of musician Harry Andersen and Marit Skatrud Andersen, married to singer-artist Anine Kruse Skatrud and son-in-law of the major Norwegian Contemporary composer Bjørn Kruse (b. 1946). Børge-Are Halvorsen (born 12 October 1978 in Lillehammer, Norway) is a Norwegian Jazz musician (soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophone and c- and alto flute). His family moved to Sandane in Gloppen where he spent his youth, but he was later a freelance musician resident of Oslo since 2003. Atle Nymo
Atle Nymo (born 9 June 1977) is a Norwegian jazz musician (tenor saxophone and bass clarinet), and the younger brother of Jazz saxophonist Frode Nymo. He is known for his contributions with the orchestras Motif, one of his main projects, and Trondheim Jazz Orchestra in which he has worked with Jazz greats like Pat Metheny and Chick Corea. Frode Nymo (born 27 November 1975), is a Norwegian jazz musician ( alto Saxophone), and older brother of the tenor sax. player Atle Nymo. Career Nymo was born in Egersund and brought up in Valnesfjord, near Fauske. Early in his career, he was a member of the Bodø Big Band led by Henning Gravrok, and he is a graduate of the Jazz Program at Trondheim Musikkonservatorium, where he and fellow students established Urban Connection, awarded the title of "Young Jazz Musicians of the Year" in 1998, at Norway's prestigious Molde International Jazz Festival, forerunner of today's Jazz Intro Award, and Spellemannprisen 2001. Accordion
Accordions (from 19th-century German ''Akkordeon'', from ''Akkord''—"musical chord, concord of sounds") are a family of box-shaped musical instruments of the bellows-driven free-reed aerophone type (producing sound as air flows past a reed in a frame), colloquially referred to as a squeezebox. A person who plays the accordion is called an accordionist. The concertina , harmoneon and bandoneón are related. The harmonium and American reed organ are in the same family, but are typically larger than an accordion and sit on a surface or the floor. The accordion is played by compressing or expanding the bellows while pressing buttons or keys, causing ''pallets'' to open, which allow air to flow across strips of brass or steel, called '' reeds''.
