Big Sky Credit Union
Big Sky Credit Union (BSCU) was an Australian based credit union formed by the current or ex-employees, contractors or service providers of BHP, BP and the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria and their subsidiaries, affiliated or divested companies. Big Sky became part of Australian Unity in 2012 and was merged with Australian Unity's subsidiary ''Lifeplan Australia Building Society'' which was subsequently renamed ''Big Sky Building Society''. Since 2016, Big Sky's operations, services and website has been increasingly integrated into Australian Unity. History The organisation started at the BHP Employee's Credit Co-operative in the 1970s. As part of a round of consolidation in the Australian Credit Union industry the Big Sky and BP Credit Unions merged on 1 September 2003. The Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) is a motoring club and mutual organisation. It offers various services to members, including insurance and roadside assistance. It has about 30,000 ordinary club members who have access to the lifestyle club properties and 2.1 million service members who hold any product offered by RACV. Australian Unity is an Australian Mutual organization, mutual company having its origins in the friendly society, friendly societies movement. It was formed as the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows (MUIOOF) in Melbourne, Victoria, on 7 December 1840 by eight men including Thomas Strode, publisher of the Port Phillip Gazette and Augustus Greeves, inspired by Independent Order of Oddfellows Manchester Unity. In 1993, Manchester Unity merged with the Australian Natives' Association to form Australian Unity. Later mergers occurred with Grand United Order of Oddfellows, Grand United Friendly Society in 2005, Lifeplan Australia Friendly Society in 2009, and Big Sky Credit Union in 2012. The RACV Credit Union was a credit union based in suburban Victoria, Australia that merged with Big Sky Credit Union in 2005. Membership of the credit union was open to staff and families of current and former employees of the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria and to Club Members of the organisation. The credit union was formed in 1972 The credit union had cash handling facilities at its head office within the RACV service Headquarters in Noble Park. In 1978, the credit union was part of a training program for Swinburne College. "Under college supervision, students worked as a team to produce a useful programme for the RACV Credit Union." The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) is Australia's central bank and banknote issuing authority. It has had this role since 14 January 1960, when the ''Reserve Bank Act 1959'' removed the central banking functions from the Commonwealth Bank.
