Big Brother (Israeli TV Series)
''Big Brother'' (, Transliteration: , ) is the Israeli version of the international reality television franchise ''Big Brother'' created by producer John de Mol Jr. in 1997. The show began broadcasting in 2008, following the premise of other versions of the format, the show features a group of contestants, known as "Housemates," who live together in a specially constructed house that is isolated from the outside world. The housemates are continuously monitored during their stay in the house by live television cameras as well as personal audio microphones. Throughout the competition, housemates are evicted from the house. The last remaining Housemate wins the competition and is awarded a cash prize. History The show was initially produced by Keshet and aired on Channel 2 from 2008 to 2017. The show ran for eight original seasons and two celebrity seasons. Shimshon "Shimi" Tavori (; born February 9, 1953) is an Israeli singer. He performs mostly in Hebrew but also in French. Zehava Ben (born Zehava Benisti; ; November 8, 1968) is an Israeli singer. Ben is one of the most popular Israeli female vocalists in the Mizrahi music genre; the Middle Eastern-style of singing rising from Israel's Mizrahi Jewish population, dominating Israeli music in the 1990s and popular ever since. Tal Gilboa (; born June 16, 1978) is an Israeli animal liberation and vegan activist. In 2013, she founded the Israeli Animal Liberation Front, renamed 'Total Liberation' in 2018. Big Brother is a character and symbol in George Orwell's dystopian 1949 novel '' Nineteen Eighty-Four''. He is ostensibly the leader of Oceania, a totalitarian state wherein the ruling party, Ingsoc, wields total power "for its own sake" over the inhabitants. The ubiquitous slogan "Big Brother is watching you" serves as a constant reminder that Party members are not entitled to privacy. They are subject to constant surveillance to ensure their ideological purity. This is primarily through omnipresent telescreens that provide two-way video communication and constantly blare propaganda. This close surveillance does not extend to the "proles", who constitute the majority of Oceanic society.
