Big Apple (club)
The Big Apple was a nightclub in Munich's Schwabing district from 1963 to 1975 and, together with the PN hit-house, formed the center of the southern German beat and rock music culture during the Swinging Sixties. History The Big Apple opened in 1963 a few months after the Schwabinger Krawalle riots at Leopoldstraße 23 in the then trendy Munich district of Schwabing. Influenced by the African-American culture of the troops of the United States European Command, soul music was initially predominant in the Big Apple. The club's first DJ was Jürgen Herrmann, the later presenter and music editor at Bayerischer Rundfunk. Later, the initially pure discotheque also hosted concerts, for which beer tables were tied together and served as a stage. Leopoldstraße
Leopoldstraße is a street in the Munich districts Maxvorstadt, Schwabing and Milbertshofen. It is a major boulevard, and the main street of the Schwabing district. It is a continuation of Ludwigstraße, the boulevard of King Ludwig I of Bavaria, north of the Siegestor. Architecture After the incorporation of Schwabing in 1891, it was named after Prince Leopold of Bavaria, son of Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria. Previously the southern part of this road was called Schwabinger Weg (way). From Milbertshofener Straße / Domagkstraße, Leopoldstrasse is named Ingolstädter Straße. Leopoldstraße runs from the Siegestor (Victory Gate) and the Art Academy in the south to the Münchner Freiheit, with the Protestant church 'Erlöserkirche', and then further to the north. The Yardbirds
The Yardbirds are an English rock band, formed in London in 1963. The band's core lineup featured vocalist and harmonica player Keith Relf, drummer Jim McCarty, rhythm guitarist and later bassist Chris Dreja and bassist/producer Paul Samwell-Smith. The band started the careers of three of rock's most famous guitarists, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck, all of whom ranked in the top five of ''Rolling Stone'' magazine's list of 100 greatest guitarists. Chas Chandler
Bryan James "Chas" Chandler (18 December 1938 – 17 July 1996) was an English musician, record producer and manager, best known as the original bassist in The Animals, for which he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. He also managed the band Slade, and Jimi Hendrix, about whom he was regularly interviewed until his death in 1996. Early life Chandler was born in Heaton, Newcastle. After leaving school, he worked as a turner in the Tyneside shipyards. He became the bass player with The Alan Price Trio in 1962. The Abendzeitung (''"Evening Paper"''), sometimes abbreviated to AZ, is a liberal morning tabloid newspaper from Munich, Germany. A localized edition is published in Nuremberg. The paper is published six days a week; the masthead of the Saturday edition is held in light blue. Rivals on the Munich tabloid market are '' tz'' and a localized edition of the national mass circulation phenomenon '' Bild-Zeitung''. History ''AZ'' was founded by Werner Friedmann on 16 June 1948 as a street selling newspaper. Amon Düül
Amon Düül was a West German political art commune formed out of the student movement of the 1960s that became well known for its free-form musical improvisations. This spawned two rock groups, Amon Düül (sometimes referred to as Amon Düül I) and the more famous Amon Düül II. After both groups disbanded in the 1970s, some of the original members reunited in the 1980s under the name Amon Düül again, though this incarnation is commonly referred to as Amon Düül UK to avoid confusion with earlier versions of the band. A house band is a group of musicians, often centrally organized by a band leader, who regularly play at an establishment. It is widely used to refer both to the bands who work on entertainment programs on television or radio, and to bands which are the regular performers at a nightclub, especially jazz and R&B clubs.
