Bien Bien
Bien Bien (1989–2002) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse bred by William S. Farish III & William S. Kilroy and raced by Trudy McCaffery and John Toffan. He won eight stakes races during his career, including four Grade I events. He set a course record of 1:57.75 for 1¼ miles while winning the 1993 Hollywood Invitational Turf Handicap. He also ran second in the 1993 Breeders' Cup Turf to winner Kotashaan. Bien Bien was retired to stud for the 1995 season. He stood at Mill Ridge Farm near Lexington, Kentucky, until 2000, when he was sent to Kirtlington Stud near Kirtlington, Oxfordshire, England. Manila (horse)
Manila (born 1983 in Kentucky, died 2009, 28 February, in İzmit, Turkey) was an American Thoroughbred Hall of Fame Champion racehorse. He was sired by Northern Dancer's son Lyphard, out of the mare Dona Ysidra. He was bred by Filipino food and beverage magnate Eduardo Cojuangco, Jr. who owned Dona Ysidra and who named her for his grandfather's sister, Dona Ysidra Cojuangco (1867–1960) of Tarlac, reportedly the founder of the Cojuangco family fortune. Manila was raced by Lexington, Kentucky thoroughbred agent Bradley M. Shannon and trained by future U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee LeRoy Jolley. Thoroughbred
The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Although the word ''thoroughbred'' is sometimes used to refer to any breed of purebred horse, it technically refers only to the Thoroughbred breed. Thoroughbreds are considered " hot-blooded" horses that are known for their agility, speed, and spirit. Oaklawn Breeders Cup Stakes
The Azeri Stakes is a Grade II American Thoroughbred horse race for fillies and mares that are four years old or older, over a distance of one and one-sixteenth miles on the dirt track held annually in March at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The event currently carries a purse of $350,000. History The inaugural running of the event was on 3 April 1987 as the Oaklawn Budweiser Breeders' Cup Handicap with sponsorship for Budweiser and the Breeders' Cup. The event was won by North Sider who was ridden by US Hall of Fame jockey Angel Cordero Jr. and trained by US Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas in a time of 1:42. North Sider later that year would capture US Champion Older Female Horse. The event was upgraded to a Grade III event in 1990 but was downgraded back to Listed in 1995 for five runnings. Prix De Condé
The Prix de Condé is a Group 3 flat horse race in France open to two-year-old thoroughbreds. It is run at Longchamp over a distance of 1,800 metres (about 1⅛ miles), and it is scheduled to take place each year in October. History The event was established in 1867, and it was initially held at Chantilly. It was named after the Princes of Condé, the former owners of the Château de Chantilly. It was originally contested over 2,000 metres. The race was transferred to Longchamp in 1907. It was abandoned throughout World War I, but there was a substitute version at Chantilly in 1917. Alice Headley Chandler (January 15, 1926 — April 6, 2021) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse breeder and racing stable owner. Chandler is known for establishing Mill Ridge Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. In 2020, the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame inducted Chandler under the Pillars of the Turf category for “extraordinary contributions to Thoroughbred racing in a leadership or pioneering capacity at the highest national level." A stud animal is a registered animal retained for breeding. The terms for the male of a given animal species (stallion, bull, rooster, etc.) usually imply that the animal is intact—that is, not castrated—and therefore capable of siring offspring. Kotashaan (foaled May 4, 1988 in Orne, France) was a Thoroughbred racehorse who competed in France and earned Champion honors in the United States. Background He was bred and raced by brothers Alain and Gérard Wertheimer, owners of the House of Chanel in Paris. Kotashaan was sired by Darshaan, winner of the 1984 French Derby and the Leading sire in France in 2003.
