Sir Ernest Bickham Sweet-Escott, (20 August 1857 – 9 April 1941) was a British colonial administrator who was in turn governor of the British Seychelles, British Honduras, British Leeward Islands and British Fiji. Early years Sweet-Escott was born at Bath, the fifth son of the Rev. Hay Sweet-Escott, headmaster of Somersetshire College, Bath, and Rector of Kilve, Somerset, by his wife Eliza, daughter of Rev. George Bickham The Elder
George Bickham the Elder (1684–1758) was an English writing master and engraver. He is best known for his engraving work in ''The Universal Penman'', a collection of writing exemplars which helped to popularise the English Round Hand script in the 18th century. Bickham produced copybooks and business texts, as there was a strong link between writing and mathematics instruction (arithmetic and bookkeeping) in the-mid 17th century to early 18th century. In 1733 Bickham collected penmanship samples from twenty-five London writing masters, engraved and published them in ''The Universal Penman'', issued in fifty-two parts between 1733 and 1741. The collection became one of the most important and popular copy texts used by writing masters to instruct their pupils. It is still used by calligraphers interested in the English Round Hand or Copperplate script and was reprinted as recently as 2014. Jack Bickham
Jack Miles Bickham (September 2, 1930 – July 25, 1997) was an American author who wrote 75 published novels, of which two were made into movies, '' The Apple Dumpling Gang'' and ''Baker's Hawk''. Life Jack Bickham was born September 2, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio. He was an assistant professor at the University of Oklahoma's H.H. Herbert School of Journalism in Norman, Oklahoma, from 1969 to 1972, associate professor from 1972 to 1979, and full professor in 1979. He directed the annual short course on professional writing from 1973 to 1990. Bickham received the rank of David Ross Boyd Professor, the highest honor the university can bestow for teaching excellence. Moreese Bickham
Moreese Bickham (June 6, 1917 – April 2, 2016) was an American resident of Mandeville, Louisiana who was arrested, convicted, and sentenced to death for the July 12, 1958, killings of two sheriff's deputies, who were allegedly members of the Ku Klux Klan. In 1972, Bickham's death sentence was converted to life without parole after the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Furman v. Georgia. In April 1995, after a detailed legal challenge to Bickham's 1958 conviction, the Governor of Louisiana commuted his sentence to 75 years. Several months later, Bickham's attorney won a full release, and Bickham left Angola State Penitentiary in January, 1996, after 37 1/2 years in prison.
