Bicazu Ardelean
Bicazu Ardelean () is a commune in Neamț County, Romania. It is composed of three villages: Bicazu Ardelean, Telec (''Gyergyózsedánpatak''), and Ticoș (''Tikos''). Located on the western border of Neamț County, Bicazu Ardelean is one of three communes in the county (most of which is in Western Moldavia) that are part of the historic region of Transylvania. The commune lies on the banks of the Bicaz River and its tributaries, the Capra and the Bistra. Directly to the north is the imposing Ceahlău Massif, while the Hășmaș Mountains are to the southwest. It neighbors the following communes: Grințieș and Ceahlău to the north, Tașca to the east, Bicaz-Chei to the south, and Tulgheș, Harghita County to the west. Mozes Kahana (; ; , 26 November 1897 – 11 April 1974) was a Hungarian-born writer, poet, essayist and revolutionary active in Romania, the Soviet Union and Hungary. Biography Early life Kahana was born in 1897 into a Jewish family in Gyergyóbékás, Kingdom of Hungary, Austria-Hungary (now Bicazu Ardelean, Neamț County, Romania). He was the younger brother of psychiatrist Ernő Kahána (1890–1982). In his hometown, Kahana published his first poems under the name Joel Béla. Political and literary career In 1918, with the formation of the First Hungarian Republic, he moved to Budapest, where he published under the pseudonym Gyergyai Zoltán. In the following year, when the Hungarian Soviet Republic was established, he became a member of the Communist Party of Hungary and worked as a journalist for the newspaper " Vörös Újság" (Red Newspaper). Red Lake (Romania)
Red Lake is a natural dam lake in Harghita County, Romania. It is located in the Hășmaș Mountains, on the upper course of the Bicaz River, and lies at the foot of the , near the Bicaz Gorge, at a distance of from Gheorgheni and from Bicaz. The lake formed following the collapse of a slope due to the earthquake of January 23, 1838 at 18:45, measuring 6.9 magnitude on the Richter scale, VIII intensity. The landslide blocked the course of the Bicaz River and the lake formed behind this dam. Bicaz () is a town in Neamț County, Western Moldavia, Romania situated in the eastern Carpathian Mountains near the confluence of the Bicaz and Bistrița Rivers and near Lake Bicaz, an artificial lake formed by the Bicaz Dam on the Bistrița. Bicaz used to be a border town until 1918. Six villages are administered by the town: Capșa, Dodeni, Izvoru Alb, Izvoru Muntelui, Potoci, and Secu. Economy Before the construction of the dam (1950–1960) the settlement was just a mountain village in Eastern Carpathians where the main economic activity was timber harvesting.
