Bibigon (Russian: Бибигон) was a Russian television channel dedicated to children and adolescents. The channel, a subsidiary of Russia-1 and owned by VGTRK, was first launched on 1 September 2007. It was originally launched as a block in daytime on Russia, Sport and Culture channels. The channel was named after the character of Chukovsky's fairy tale " The adventures of Bibigon". The Adventures Of Bibigon
''Bibigon's Adventures'' () is a literary fairy tale by Russian children's writer Korney Chukovsky. Bibigon is a mischievous thumb-sized midget boy who lives in Korney Chukovsky's ''dacha'' and claims he fell from the Moon and calls himself "Count Bibigon de Lilliput". History ''Bibigon'' was the last children's fairy tale of Chukovsky written after a long hiatus caused by the death of tuberculosis of the youngest Chukovsky's daughter Mura (Maria), 11 years old. Written as a mixture of prose and verse, the tale was first serialized in children's magazine ''Murzilka'' during 1945-1946, then the publication was stopped, due to the surge of the Soviet ideological censorship known as '' Zhdanovshchina''. Russia-K ( "Russia - Culture") is a Russian nationwide not-for-profit television channel that broadcasts shows regarding arts and culture. It belongs to the state-controlled VGTRK group. History The creation of ''Kultura'' channel was authorised on 25 August 1997 after the presidential Decree No. 919 was signed by Boris Yeltsin. Its creation was supported by Mstislav Rostropovich, Dmitry Likhachyov, Rolan Bykov and other public figures. Mikhail Shvydkoy became the first editor-in-chief of Kultura. The channel began broadcasting on 1 November 1997 at 10:00 AM. At the stage of launching, it was planned that it would be called "RTR-2" (while RTR was labeled as RTR-1).
