Biafra Zionist Front
The Biafra Zionist Front (BZF), formerly known as the Biafra Zionist Movement and also known as the Biafra Zionists Federation, is a group agitating for the restoration of Biafra and its independence from Nigeria. It is led by Benjamin Onwuka. The movement's purpose is the actualization of the sovereign state of Biafra along precolonial lines. The group claims to be supported by Israel and the United States and explicitly relates its cause to the Zionist movement. History The group was formerly part of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra but was split off in 2010 by British-Nigerian lawyer Benjamin Onwuka. The group "re-declared the independence of Biafra" on 5 November 2012, for which Onwuka and 100 others were arrested and charged with treason but granted bail; the charges against Onwuka were later dismissed for lack of evidence. Biafra
Biafara Anglicisation (linguistics), anglicized as Biafra ( ), officially the Republic of Biafra, was a List of historical unrecognized states and dependencies, partially recognised state in West Africa that declared independence from Nigeria and existed from 1967 to 1970. Its territory consisted of the former Eastern Region, Nigeria, Eastern Region of Nigeria, predominantly inhabited by the Igbo people, Igbo ethnic group. Movement For The Actualization Of The Sovereign State Of Biafra
The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) is a secessionist movement in Nigeria, associated with Igbo nationalism, which supports the recreation of an independent state of Biafra. It was founded in 1999 and is led by an Indian-trained lawyer Ralph Uwazuruike, with headquarters in Okwe, in the Okigwe district of Imo State. MASSOB's leaders say it is a peaceful group and advertise a 25-stage plan to achieve its goal peacefully. There are two arms to the government, the Biafra Government in Exile and Biafra Shadow Government. The Nigerian government accuses MASSOB of violence; MASSOB's leader, Ralph Uwazuruike, was arrested in 2005 and detained on treason charges; he was released in 2007. The 2014 Enugu Government House Attack was carried out on 8 March 2014, when members of the militant group '' Biafra Zionist Federation'' took control of the state house for about 4 hours and erected the flag of Biafra at the entrance of the house. 2014 Enugu State Broadcasting Service Attack
The 2014 Enugu State Broadcasting Service Attack took place on June 5, 2014, when about 13 members of the Biafra Zionist Federation militant group attacked the Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS) in an attempt to make a public announcement on radio and television declaring the sovereign state of Biafra. Background Since the fall of Biafra at the end of Nigerian Civil War, there have been occasional unrest in the South-East region of Nigeria. The Biafra Zionist Federation (BZF) and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) have been the most popular pro-biafran groups in the region. Enugu () verbally pronounced as "Enụgwụ" by the Igbo indigenes is a state in the South-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, bordered to the north by the states of Benue and Kogi, Ebonyi State to the east and southeast, Abia State to the south, and Anambra State to the west.
