Bhikki Power Plant
The Bhikki Power Plant is a 1,180 MW RLNG based combined cycle power plant located near Sheikhupura, in the Punjab province of Pakistan. This is the first RLNG based power plant which is developed by Government of Punjab through its own resources. The plant is owned and operated by Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Power Limited (QATPL), a company wholly-owned by the government of Punjab. It is one of the three major RLNG power plants including Haveli Bahadur Shah and Balloki which were built between 2015 and 2018 to curb the electricity loadshedding in Pakistan. Letter of Intent (LOI) was issued on 13 May, 2015 and the project achieved its commercial operations in just 34 months on May 20, 2018. Regasification
Regasification is a process of converting liquefied natural gas (LNG) at −162 °C (−260 °F) temperature back to natural gas at atmospheric temperature. LNG gasification plants can be located on land as well as on floating barges, i.e. a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU). Floating barge mounted plants have the advantage that they can be towed to new offshore locations for better usage in response to changes in the business environment. In a conventional regasification plant, LNG is heated by sea water to convert it to natural gas / methane gas. Balloki Power Plant
The Balloki Power Plant is a 1,223 MW natural gas power plant completed in mid 2018 in Pattoki, in the Punjab province of Pakistan. Groundbreaking was commenced on November 11, 2015, and construction was scheduled for completion by December 2017. The project utilizes regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) for fuel, with diesel as an alternate backup. A 40 kilometer long transmission line with a capacity of 500 kilovolts was also constructed between the new plant and a grid station in southern Lahore. Bidding was open to international firms for the 82 billion rupee project.
