Beyond This Life
''Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory'' is the fifth studio album and first concept album by the American progressive metal band Dream Theater, released on October 26, 1999, through Elektra Records. It was recorded at BearTracks Studios in Suffern, New York, where the band had previously recorded their second studio album, ''Images and Words'' (1992), and the EP ''A Change of Seasons'' (1995). The album is the sequel to " Metropolis—Part I: 'The Miracle and the Sleeper', a song featured on the band's 1992 album ''Images and Words''. It was the first album to feature Jordan Rudess on keyboards. For the album's twentieth anniversary, the band performed the album live in its entirety throughout the Distance over Time Tour (as documented on '' Distant Memories - Live in London''). Chris Burden
Christopher Lee Burden (April 11, 1946 – May 10, 2015) was an American artist working in performance art, sculpture, and installation art. Burden became known in the 1970s for his performance art works, including ''Shoot (Burden), Shoot'' (1971), where he arranged for a friend to shoot him in the arm with a small-caliber rifle. A prolific artist, Burden created many well-known installations, public artworks, and sculptures before his death in 2015. ''A Change of Seasons'' is the first EP by American progressive metal band Dream Theater, first released on September 19, 1995, through East West Records. It comprises the 23-minute title track and a collection of live cover songs performed at a fan club concert on January 31, 1995, at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London. The title track was recorded at BearTracks Studios in New York and was originally slated to be released on the 1992 album '' Images and Words'', but was instead re-recorded and released as an EP. Although the song includes audio samples from the 1989 film '' Dead Poets Society'' (as well as quotes from the 1648 Robert Herrick poem, ''To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time''), the lyrics, written by drummer Mike Portnoy, were not inspired by the film. Liquid Tension Experiment (LTE) is an American instrumental progressive metal supergroup founded by Mike Portnoy in 1997. The band initially released two albums, between 1998 and 1999. An extension of their second regular album, with the absence of John Petrucci was released in 2007 under the name "Liquid Trio Experiment". Active up until 1999, when Jordan Rudess formally joined Dream Theater, the band reunited in 2008 for a series of live shows. Derek Sherinian (born August 25, 1966) is an American keyboardist who has toured and recorded for Alice Cooper, Billy Idol, and Joe Bonamassa, among others. Kurzweil Music Systems is an American company that produces electronic musical instruments. It was founded in 1982 by Stevie Wonder (musician), Ray Kurzweil (innovator) and Bruce Cichowlas (software developer). Dixie Dregs is an American rock band from Augusta, Georgia. Formed in 1970, the band is known for instrumental music that fuses elements of rock, classical music, country music, country, jazz and bluegrass music, bluegrass into an eclectic sound that is difficult to categorize. Kevin Moore
Kevin Moore (born May 26, 1967) is an American former keyboardist, composer and the founder of the Chroma Key music project. He was also a member of the progressive metal band Dream Theater, co-founder of the progressive rock supergroup O.S.I., and a composer of film soundtracks. Throughout his career, he has become known for his emotional music and lyrics, nomadic lifestyle and use of spoken word samples. Moore started his music career in progressive metal band Dream Theater. He contributed music and lyrics to the band's first three studio albums, but left the band during the mixing process of '' Awake'' to pursue his own musical interests.
