Bexley United F.C.
Bexley United Football Club was a football club based in Welling. A club of the same name played in the Kent League before the war, before merging with Bexley. It was resurrected as Bexleyheath and Welling in about 1952 following a local campaign, and joined the Kent League. In 1959, the club was elected to the Southern Football League Division One. It gained promotion to the Southern League Premier Division in 1961 and also won the Kent Senior Cup for the only time. In 1963, the team changed its name to Bexley United. Four seasons after promotion into the Premier Division, Bexley found itself relegated back into Division One, staying there for the rest of the club's life, except for a move into the Division One South when the league structure was altered. At that point, the club got into financial trouble and never truly recovered. Bexley played its final game in April 1976 in front of 222 spectators. Park View Road
Park View Road is home to National League South professional Association football, football club Welling United F.C., Welling United, and was the ground of their predecessors Bexley United F.C., Bexley United. Welling have played there since 1977. It is also the home of Erith & Belvedere F.C., Erith & Belvedere who have been ground sharing since the 1999 season. The ground takes its name from a section of the A207 road in Welling, immediately adjacent to Danson Park. History Football has been played at Park View Road since the 1920s with a grandstand having been built by the late 1930s. Welling
Welling is a town in South East (London sub region), South East London, England, in the London Borough of Bexley, west of Bexleyheath, southeast of Woolwich and of Charing Cross. It was part of Kent prior to the creation of Greater London in 1965. Etymology Local legend has it that Welling is so called because in the era of horse-drawn vehicles it could be said you were "well in" to Kent, or had a "well end" to the journey up and down Shooters Hill which, at the time was steep, had a poor road surface and was a notorious haunt of highwaymen. Until the 1800s, most of Welling down to Blackfen was covered in woodland which offered excellent concealment for outlaws and robbers who would prey on vulnerable slow-moving horse-drawn traffic. Kent Football League
The Southern Counties East Football League is an English association football, football league established in 1966, which has teams based in Kent and Southeast London. Its two divisions are allocated at Step 5 and Step 6 of the National League System (which equates to Levels 9–10 of the overall English football league system). At its inception it was known as the Kent Premier League, and until 2013 as the Kent League. There is no direct connection between this league and a previous Kent Football League (1894–1959), Kent League that existed from 1894 to 1959, despite many clubs having spells of membership in both leagues. Bexley is an area of south-eastern Greater London, England and part of the London Borough of Bexley. It is sometimes known as Bexley Village or Old Bexley to differentiate the area from the wider borough. It is located east-southeast of Charing Cross and south of Bexleyheath. Southern Football League
The Southern League is a football competition featuring semi-professional clubs from East Anglia, the South and Midlands of England, and South Wales. Together with the Isthmian League and the Northern Premier League it forms levels seven and eight of the English football league system. Kent Senior Cup
The Kent Senior Cup is an English football knock-out competition played between senior clubs in the county of Kent. It is administered by the Kent County Football Association (KCFA). History Now known as the Kent Senior Cup it was originally named, until the 1897–98 season, as the Kent Cup with the first competition played during the 1888–89 season.
