Betty Dorothy Lyons
Betty Dorothy Lyons (26 May 1921 27 December 1986) was an Australian nurse educator. Early life and education Lyons was born on 26 May 1921 in Condobolin, New South Wales, to her parents John Joseph (Jack) Jacobs, a business manager, and his wife Eileen Jean, formerly known as Eileen Jean Hunter. She pursued her secondary education as a boarder at St Catherine's School in Waverley, Sydney. Following her training from 1940 to 1944 as a general nurse at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Betty successfully accomplished her midwifery studies in 1945 at King George V Memorial Hospital in Camperdown. Life In 1955, Lyons pursued a sister tutor diploma at the New South Wales College of Nursing. Her dedication and expertise led to her being honored as a fellow of the college in 1956. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding valuable service in a wide range of useful activities. King George V Memorial Hospital
The King George V Memorial Hospital for Mothers and Babies is a former hospital, exclusively for mothers and babies, in Sydney, Australia. It is located on Missenden Road in Camperdown, directly opposite the main buildings of the much larger Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with which it was amalgamated on 14 November 2002. History King George V hospital, opened in 1941, was designed in the Inter-War International Art Moderne style by prominent Sydney architects Stephenson & Turner. Of an especially innovative design, the building was awarded the 1941 Sir John Sulman Medal by the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (NSW Chapter). The Australasian Trained Nurses' Association was an association formed in 1899 to register nurses who had been trained in Australia. History Susan McGahey was a co-founder of the Australasian Trained Nurses' Association (ATNA) in December 1899 which was briefly named the Australian Trained Nurses' Association. She had posted a newspaper advert asking for people interested in forming an association to register trained nurses to meet with her. Kogarah () is a suburb of Southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Kogarah is located 14 kilometres (9 miles) south-west of the Sydney central business district and is considered to be the centre of the St George area. Woronora Cemetery railway station was a funerary railway station on the Illawarra railway line in New South Wales, Australia. The station served the Woronora Memorial Park. The station opened months after the first burial in 1900, and closed in 1947 due to the rising popularity in funeral motor cars.
