Better Way 2022
Better Way 2022, also known as A Better Way, is a group of independent politicians in Jersey. It does not enforce a party whip, but its members subscribe to a list of common principles and pledge to work collaboratively together. Better Way was founded in March 2022 to contest the 2022 general election. It stood five candidates for Deputy, of which four were elected. Kristina Moore
Kristina Louise Moore is a Jersey politician and former journalist who is currently the Chief Minister of Jersey, as well as being a Deputy for St Mary, St Ouen and St Peter. She has served in the States Assembly since 2011 and is currently a deputy for St Mary, St Ouen and St Peter. First serving as Deputy for St Peter, she was Minister for Home Affairs from 2014 to 2018. In 2018 she was elected as a senator and became Chair of the Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel. In 2022, she was elected by the new States Assembly as the first female Chief Minister of Jersey, a role which she officially took on 12 July that year. Before entering politics she worked for ITV Central in the UK and ITV Channel Television in Jersey. A big tent party, or catch-all party, is a term used in reference to a political party's policy of permitting or encouraging a broad spectrum of views among its members. This is in contrast to other kinds of parties, which defend a determined ideology, seek voters who adhere to that ideology, and attempt to convince people towards it. Economic Liberalism
Economic liberalism is a political and economic ideology that supports a market economy based on individualism and private property in the means of production. Blue
Blue is one of the three primary colours in the RYB colour model (traditional colour theory), as well as in the RGB (additive) colour model. States Assembly
The States Assembly (french: Assemblée des États; Jèrriais: ) is the parliament of Jersey, formed of the island's 37 deputies and the Connétable of each of the twelve parishes. Whip (politics)
A whip is an official of a political party whose task is to ensure party discipline in a legislature. This means ensuring that members of the party vote according to the party platform, rather than according to their own individual ideology or the will of their donors or constituents. Whips are the party's "enforcers". They try to ensure that their fellow political party legislators attend voting sessions and vote according to their party's official policy. Members who vote against party policy may "lose the whip", being effectively expelled from the party. The term is taken from the " whipper-in" during a hunt, who tries to prevent hounds from wandering away from a hunting pack. 2022 Jersey General Election
The 2022 Jersey general election was held on June 22 to elect the 49 members of the States Assembly. Timeline In March 2021, it was announced the election could be held in June, rather than as regular in May, to minimise the impact of the four bank holidays which would fall during the election campaign period otherwise. The election purdah period began on 10 May 2022, limiting the activities of the Council of Ministers to business as usual activities. Electoral system The 2022 elections are the first to be held under a new electoral system. Under the system, the role of Senators is abolished and replaced with 37 Deputies elected across 9 districts via plurality block voting. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association.
