Bettel–Schneider Ministry I
The First Bettel–Schneider Ministry (or Bettel–Schneider Ministry I) was the ruling government of Luxembourg from 4 December 2013 to 5 December 2018. It was led by Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and Deputy Prime Minister Etienne Schneider. It was formed on 4 December 2013, after the 2013 election which saw all 60 seats in the Chamber of Deputies renewed. The government was a traffic light coalition between the Democratic Party (DP), the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) and The Greens. It was succeeded by Bettel–Schneider Ministry II on 5 December 2018. Formation Until 2013, Luxembourg was governed by a CSV–LSAP coalition under Jean-Claude Juncker. After concerns over political oversight of the intelligence agency of Luxembourg, the Service de Renseignement de l'État, the LSAP withdrew its support from the government. Luc Frieden (born 16 September 1963) is a Luxembourgish politician, lawyer, and business executive. He has held several posts in the cabinet of Luxembourg, including as Minister for Justice (1998–2009), Minister for Defence (2004–2006), and Minister for Finances (2009–2013). He is a member of the Trilateral Commission. Early life and education Luc Frieden completed high school in his home country Luxembourg and received thereafter an international university education in France, the UK and the US. He graduated in business law from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. He obtained a master's degree in comparative law from the University of Cambridge (UK) and a further Master of Laws Degree from Harvard Law School.
