Betje Wery
Elizabeth Wery (26 August 1920 – 16 October 2006) was a Dutch Nazi collaborator who is best known in the Netherlands for collaborating with the Nazi (SD) to locate as many Dutch Jews as possible and have them delivered to Nazi concentration camps during the occupation. Biography Wery was the eldest daughter of a family of two children. Her mother was Jewish and her father half-Jewish. She attended domestic science school for two years and Mulo for three years. In early 1940 she worked in a Bata shoe store in her hometown of Rotterdam. Wery was initially registered as fully Jewish but successfully challenged this registration. According to her, her Jewish grandmother, born in 1864, was an illegitimate child of a non-Jew. Her lawyer came up with two very old witnesses who claimed that "in 1864 everyone in Gorcum knew that Kaatje was the illegitimate daughter of De Vries". Henk Van Der Meijden
Henk van der Meijden (born 26 June 1937, in The Hague, Netherlands) is a Dutch journalist and producer of theater and circus acts. Known as the "godfather" of Dutch gossip journalism, he founded a weekly gossip magazine, Privé, and edits the gossip pages of ''De Telegraaf''. Biography Henk van der Meijden grew up in Bezuidenhout, a neighborhood of The Hague, as the elder of two in a working-class family. At age 16 he started writing children's stories for the publication '' Het Vaderland'', an evening daily. Adriana Valkenburg
Adriana 'Jeanne' Valkenburg (Schiedam, 10 June 1894 - Bergen op Zoom 19 February 1968), commonly called Jeanne de Leugenaarster (Jeanne the Liar) was a Dutch collaborator during World War II who worked as a prostitute and madam before the war. Biography Valkenburg was born on 10 June 1894 in Schiedam as the fourth of fourteen children of Jacob Valkenburg and Adriana Cornelia de Ligt. She had a difficult childhood. Her strictly religious father was violent, while her mother neglected the upbringing of the children. She first came into contact with the police in 1911 when she stole a gold ring. In 1916 she married the Jewish businessman Jacob (Jack) Stibbe. However, Stibbe disappeared without a trace after a short time. The divorce was not made official until twelve years later. Ans Van Dijk
Anna "Ans" van Dijk (24 December 1905 – 14 January 1948) was a Dutch collaborator who betrayed Jews to Nazi Germany during World War II. She was the only Dutch woman to be executed for her wartime activities. Biography Born in Amsterdam, Ans van Dijk was the daughter of Jewish parents Aron van Dijk and Kaatje Bin. She married Bram Querido in 1927, and they separated in 1935. After the marriage ended, she began a lesbian relationship with a woman named Miep Stodel, and opened a millinery shop called Maison Evany in Amsterdam. The shop was closed by the Nazis in 1941 as part of their seizure of Jewish property—Jews were forbidden to own businesses or work in retail shops, amongst other occupational restrictions. Christiaan Lindemans
Christiaan Antonius Lindemans (24 October 1912 – 18 July 1946) was a Dutch double agent during the Second World War, working under Soviet control. Otherwise known as Freddi Desmet, a Belgian army officer and SOE agent with security clearance at the Dutch Military Intelligence Division of the SOE (MID/SOE). He was known by the soubriquets "King Kong" (for his height and build) or in some circles as "''le Tueur''" ("The Killer") as he was reportedly ready to shoot at the slightest provocation. There is speculation that Lindemans was a member of Colonel Claude Dansey's Z organisation. He has been blamed for betraying Operation Market Garden and as a result helped the Germans win the battle of Arnhem in 1944. Oreste Pinto
Oreste Pinto (9 October 1889 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands – 18 September 1961 in London, England) was a Dutch counterintelligence officer and Lieutenant-Colonel. His activities during the Second World War, in which he worked with MI5 interrogating refugees to England, resulted in the capture of eight spies. Career During the Second World War, Pinto was an MI5 interrogator. He interviewed over 30,000 immigrants to the UK at the euphemistically named "London Reception Centre" in the Royal Victoria Patriotic Building in Wandsworth. In 1952, Pinto published two books, ''Spy-catcher'' and ''Friend or Foe?'' Willy Lages
Willy Paul Franz Lages (5 October 1901 – 2 April 1971) was the German chief of the Sicherheitsdienst in Amsterdam during the Second World War. From March 1941 he led the so-called ''Zentralstelle für jüdische Auswanderung'' (Central Bureau for the Jewish Emigration). As such, he was complicit in the mass deportations of 70,000 Dutch Jews to the concentration camps in Germany and occupied Poland. Lages also directly ordered multiple executions, including that of Hannie Schaft. After the war, a court in the Netherlands found Lages guilty of war crimes and sentenced him to death in 1949. His sentence was confirmed in 1950. However, Lages was never executed since Queen Juliana, who had become increasingly reluctant to authorize death sentences, refused to sign his death warrant.
