Bertrand Narvesen
Bertrand Narve Louis Narvesen (April 29, 1860 – March 7, 1939) was a Norwegian businessman and merchant. He was the founder of the Norwegian chain of newsagents ''Narvesens Kioskkompagni'' (Later shortened to ''Narvesen''). Today, ''Narvesen'' is one of the largest chains of convenience stores in Norway, and Norway's leading retailer of international newspapers and periodicals. Bertrand Narvesen was born in the parish of Brunlanes in Larvik, Vestfold, Norway. Narvesen first joined the National Postal Service (''Posten Norge''). In 1887 he applied, and received the railway's permission to run a news agency at Larvik station and to sell Kristiania based newspapers. Narvesen left the postal service in 1893. In 1894, he received approval from the Norwegian State Railways to takeover the sale of newspapers, magazines and travel literature on the national railways. Narvesen is a Norway, Norwegian chain of Newsagent's shop, newsagents / convenience stores which, with its 370 outlets nationwide, is one of Norway's largest retailers. The company has since 2000 been part of the Reitan Group (''Reitangruppen''). Narvesens Kioskkompagni (the name later shortened to Narvesen) was established by the businessman and merchant Bertrand Narvesen (1860–1939) who in 1894 received approval from Norwegian State Railways (1883–1996), Norwegian State Railways to take over the sale of all newspapers, magazines, and travel literature on its stations. Narvesen became a nationwide joint stock company in 1928. Today Narvesen also operates 249 stores in Latvia and a further 260 stores in Lithuania, where it shares market with , also owned by Reitangruppen since 2012. Brunlanes
Brunlanes is a List of former municipalities of Norway, former municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1988. The area is now the southwestern part of Larvik Municipality. The administrative centre was the village of Tanum, Vestfold, Tanum. Other villages in Brunlanes include Kjose, Nevlunghavn, Vardåsen, and Helgeroa. Some of the best agricultural land in Vestfold, Vestfold County is found in Brunlanes, and farming is the main industry with considerable vegetable- and grain cultivation. Vestfold
Vestfold () is a county and a current electoral district in Norway. Located on the western shore of the Oslofjord, it borders Buskerud and Telemark counties. Posten Bring, formerly Posten Norge (), is the name of the Norway, Norwegian mail, postal service. The company, owned by the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications, had a monopoly until 2016 on the distribution of letters weighing less than throughout the country.
