Bersuit Vergarabat
Bersuit Vergarabat (Commonly referred to as La Bersuit) is an Argentine rock band that formed formally in 1987. History The previous name of the band (from 1987 to May 1989) was ''Henry y la Palangana''. By the end of 1989, the band had changed name several times, adopting nonsensical names like "Ernios of arcabio", "Aparrata Vergi", "Seria Soneub" (Buenos Aires spelled backwards); but eventually settled on "Bersuit Vergarabat Van de ir" then keeping only "Bersuit Vergarabat" its most iconic name. After two albums of largely underground transgressor rock music, the band began to experiment with Latin American rhythms such as cumbia, chacarera, candombe and cuartetazo. The lyrics, though, remained acerbic, sardonic, and critical-leaning with regard to political and social problems. Gustavo Cordera
Gustavo Edgardo Cordera (born September 15, 1961 in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires) is an Argentine rock musician, best known as the ex frontman of the band Bersuit Vergarabat. Biography Cordera's musical career began in 1988, when he was studying communications at the Universidad Nacional de Lomas de Zamora and running his own auto dealership, Cordera Bros. In the spring of that year, he visited Rio de Janeiro during Carnaval and was inspired to become a musician. Returning to Avellaneda, he sold his dealership, abandoned his studies, and shaved his head, an act which earned him the sobriquet Pelado (in English "Bald"). Cuartetazo
Cuarteto (), sometimes called cuartetazo, is a musical genre born in Córdoba, Argentina. The roots of the cuarteto ensemble are in Italian and Spanish dance ensembles. The name was coined because the early dance-hall numbers were invariably four-piece bands (violin-piano-accordion-bass). Cuarteto is almost always upbeat; its rhythm range is similar to that of modern Dominican merengue. In the 1970s, cuarteto became one of the cornerstones of Córdoba's cultural identity—together with ''Hortensia'' magazine. Both reflected a local brand of popular culture overlooked by the establishment, and proposed an alternative to the Buenos Aires-centered culture that television was spreading to the rest of the country. ''Candombe'' is a style of music and dance that originated in Uruguay among the descendants of liberated African slaves. In 2009, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) inscribed ''candombe'' in its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. To a lesser extent, ''candombe'' is practiced in Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil. In Argentina, it can be found in Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Paraná, and Corrientes. In Paraguay, this tradition continues in Camba Cuá and in Fernando de la Mora near Asunción. The Chacarera is a dance and music that originated in Santiago del Estero, Argentina. It is a genre of folk music that, for many Argentina, Argentines, serves as a rural counterpart to the cosmopolitan imagery of the tango (ballroom), Tango. A dance form played by contemporary musicians as soloists or in small ensembles of voice, guitar, violin and bombo drum, the Chacarera is often legitimized by its “origin” in the remote province of Santiago del Estero. Cumbia refers to a number of musical rhythms and folk dance traditions of Latin America, generally involving musical and cultural elements from American Indigenous peoples, Europeans, and Africans during colonial times. Cumbia is said to have come from funeral traditions in the Afro-Colombian community.
