BLIT (short Story)
"BLIT" (acronym of ''Berryman Logical Image Technique'') is a 1988 science fiction short story by the British writer David Langford. It takes place in a setting where highly dangerous types of images called "basilisks" (after the legendary reptile) have been discovered; these images contain patterns within them that exploit flaws in the structure of the human mind to produce a lethal reaction, effectively " crashing" the mind the way a computer program crashes when given data that it fails to process. Summary The story is broken up into sections of narrative and expository sections on the nature of the "basilisks" or "BLITs" written in a pseudo- scientific style. John Berryman (VC)
John Berryman VC (18 July 1825 – 27 June 1896) was a British Army non-commissioned officer and a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Victoria Cross action Born in Dudley, England, Berriman was 29 years old, and a Troop Sergeant-Major in the 17th Lancers (Duke of Cambridge's Own) during the Crimean War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. William Berryman
William Berryman was an English artist who was active in Jamaica during the period 1808–1816. He produced over three hundred pencil sketches and watercolours of the Jamaican landscape and the daily lives of the island's people. His work demonstrates particular interest in the lives of the island's majority inhabitants: enslaved people of African and mixed descent. He planned a project of making an engraving series based upon his Jamaican artwork, but died before he could undertake it. Berryman's life is not well documented. In the early 1800s he lived with his brother John on Great Portland Street, London, and both of them exhibited art in the 1802 exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts. William and John later contributed woodblock illustrations to John Thomas Smith's ''Antiquities of Westminster'' (1807). Phillip Berryman
Phillip E. Berryman (born 1938) is the author of several books on both liberation theology and the Christian experience in Latin America. After his ordination as a Roman Catholic priest in 1963, he spent two years at a church in Pasadena, California, before working in pastoral ministry in the Panama City barrio of El Chorrillo from 1965–1973. That year, he left the priesthood and married. He later worked with the American Friends Service Committee, living in Guatemala but traveling throughout Central America. He returned to the United States in 1980 and began writing the next year. He is a professor of Latin American Studies at Temple University. Paul Michael Berryman is an Australian musician who played drums for alternative rockers, the Superjesus (1994–2004, 2013–16), and Faker (2003–08). Nathan Hudson of Faker explained why Berryman had replaced founding drummer Andrew Day, "We could record something that would get people interested, but people would come to see us and go, 'Well, it's not convincing, it's not the band I heard on record'. Michael John Berryman (born September 4, 1948) is an American character actor. Berryman was born with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia, a rare condition characterized by the absence of sweat glands, hair, and fingernails; his unusual physical appearance has allowed Berryman to make a career out of portraying characters in horror movies and B movies. He came to prominence with his roles in ''One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'' in 1975 and '' The Hills Have Eyes'' in 1977. Lou and Peter Berryman (born 1947) are American folk singer-songwriters and longtime residents of Madison, Wisconsin. Lou (for Louise) and Peter were married at one time—hence the common last name. They divorced but remained friends and musical partners. (And, subsequently, they married again to new spouses.) Mostly, guitarist Peter writes the lyrics and accordionist Lou writes the music, but all their songs are collaborations. They specialize in songs that make humorous observations about the human condition. For example, "A Chat With Your Mother" is about a parent horrified by her child's cursing, and "Orange Cocoa Cake" presents another mother attempting, on the phone, to tell a friend a recipe while her children demand her attention. John Allyn McAlpin Berryman (born John Allyn Smith, Jr.; October 25, 1914 – January 7, 1972) was an American poet and scholar. He was a major figure in American poetry in the second half of the 20th century and is considered a key figure in the "confessional" school of poetry. His best-known work is ''The Dream Songs''. Life and career John Berryman was born on October 25, 1914 in McAlester, Oklahoma, where he was raised until the age of ten, when his father, John Smith, a banker, and his mother, Martha (also known as Peggy), a schoolteacher, moved to Florida. In 1926, in Clearwater, Florida, when Berryman was 11 years old, his father shot and killed himself. Smith was jobless at the time, and he and Martha were filing for divorce. Berryman was haunted by his father's death for the rest of his life and wrote about his struggle to come to terms with it in much of his poetry. Jim Berryman (born February 17, 1947) is a politician from the U.S. state of Michigan. He is the former mayor of Adrian, Michigan. He previously served as a member of the Michigan Senate, where he represented the 11th district from 1991 to 1994, and the 17th district from 1995 to 1998.
