Bernie Wolfe (hockey)
Bernard Ronald Wolfe (born December 18, 1951) is a Canadian businessman and former professional ice hockey player. Wolfe played 119 games over four seasons in the National Hockey League with the Washington Capitals from 1975 to 1979. Early life Wolfe was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and is Jewish. His mother, Fay Wolfe, observed upon his becoming an NHL hockey player: "Of course I would have preferred him to be a doctor, or some kind of professional man. But if Bernie is happy, then we're happy." His father, Mickey, had played goaltender for the Canadian Army team. Wolfe attended, majored in financial management, and played hockey at Sir George Williams University in Montreal, where he was named the school's top male athlete. David Poile
David Poile ( , born February 14, 1950) is a Canadian-American retired ice hockey executive and former player. He was the president of hockey operations and general manager for the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1997 to 2023. He is the son of the former NHL player, coach and executive Bud Poile. Poile was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2024 as a builder. Career Poile was a successful hockey player at Northeastern University, still holding the record for most career hat tricks with 11. While at Northeastern Poile was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. Poile began his career in the NHL as an administrative assistant with the then-expansion Atlanta Flames in 1972. Olaf Kölzig
Olaf Kölzig (born 6 April 1970) is a South African-born Germans, German professional ice hockey goaltender and current goaltender coach and player development coach for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL). With the exception of eight games with the Tampa Bay Lightning, he played his entire 14-year NHL career with the Capitals. Nicknamed "Olie the Goalie", Kölzig was born in South Africa to German parents and grew up in several cities across Canada. His family moved to Union Bay, British Columbia, when he was a teenager. Kölzig never applied for Canadian citizenship, which allowed him to represent Germany internationally. Jim Hrivnak
Jim Hrivnak (born May 28, 1968) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. Selected by the Washington Capitals in the 1986 NHL Draft, Hrivnak played parts of four seasons with the Capitals before joining the Winnipeg Jets and later, the St. Louis Blues. Playing career Hrivnak played for Merrimack College from 1985 to 1989. His freshman year he would go 12-6. This would lead to him being named ECAC east rookie of the year his freshman year. Hrivnak would have a great sophomore year as he would play every game for the warriors going 27-7 overall. Leading Merrimack to their first ECAC East championship. 1974–75 Washington Capitals Season
The 1974–75 Washington Capitals season was the first in Capitals history. Along with the Kansas City Scouts, the Capitals joined the National Hockey League as an expansion team for the 1974–75 season. The team was owned by Abe Pollin, owner of the NBA's Washington Bullets. Pollin had built the Capital Centre in suburban Landover, Maryland, to house both the Bullets (who formerly played in Baltimore) and the Capitals.
