Bernie Collins
Alphonsus Bernard Collins (18 June 1935 – 26 March 2018) was a member of the House of Commons of Canada at the Souris—Moose Mountain electoral district from 1993 to 1997. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, his career has been in education and administration. Souris—Moose Mountain is a federal electoral district in Saskatchewan, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1988. Geography This electoral district is located in Southeast Saskatchewan, encompassing the cities of Weyburn and Estevan. The riding extends from Radville in the west to the Manitoba border, and from Estevan to Grenfell and the Qu'Appelle River in the north. History This district was created in 1987 from Qu'Appelle—Moose Mountain and portions of the Assiniboia riding. This riding lost a fraction of territory to Moose Jaw—Lake Centre—Lanigan and gained significant territory from Wascana during the 2012 electoral redistribution. The 1993 Canadian federal election was held on October 25, 1993, to elect members to the House of Commons of the 35th Parliament of Canada. Considered to be a major political realignment, it was one of the most eventful elections in Canada's history. Two new regionalist parties emerged and the election marked the worst defeat for a governing party at the federal level. In a landslide, the Liberal Party, led by Jean Chrétien, won a majority government. Leonard Gustafson
Lenard Joseph Gustafson, PC (November 10, 1933 – March 18, 2022) was a Canadian politician from Saskatchewan. Gustafson served in the Senate of Canada and House of Commons of Canada. Born in Macoun, Saskatchewan, Gustafson was a farmer, contractor and businessman, before he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1979 general election as the Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament for Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. He did not serve in the short-lived government led by Prime Minister Joe Clark. He was re-elected in 1980, 1984, and 1988. Gustafson served as parliamentary secretary to Prime Minister Brian Mulroney from 1984 until shortly before Mulroney left office. In May 1993, shortly before his retirement, Mulroney appointed Gustafson to the Senate of Canada, where he sat as a Progressive Conservative and, since February 2004, as a Conservative.
