Bernice Chauly
Bernice Chauly (born 1968, Georgetown, Penang) is a Malaysian writer, poet, educator, festival director, actor, photographer and filmmaker. Biography Born to a Chindian teacher couple, she read Education and English Literature at the University of Winnipeg, Canada as a government scholar. She is the author of seven books, which include poetry and prose; going there and coming back (1997), The Book of Sins (2008), Lost in KL (2008), the acclaimed memoir Growing Up With Ghosts (2011) which won in the Popular Readers’ Choice Awards 2012 in the Non-Fiction Category, Onkalo (2013), her third collection of poems which Nobel laureate J.M Coetzee has said is "direct, honest and powerful", Once We Were There (2017) published by Epigram Books, Incantations/Incarcerations (2019) published by Gerakbudaya. George Town Literary Festival
The George Town Literary Festival (GTLF) is an annual literary festival which takes place in the city of George Town, Penang, Malaysia. Since its establishment in 2011, it has grown to become the largest world literature festival organised in Malaysia. History The George Town Literary Festival (GTLF) was initiated in 2011 by former Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng, debuting with a line-up of five writers. Penang Global Tourism led production from 2011-2014, while Penang Institute took charge in 2015. Penang Institute organised the festival in 2024. International Writing Program
The International Writing Program (IWP) is a writing residency for international artists in Iowa City, Iowa, United States. Since 2014, the program offers online courses to many writers and poets around the world. Since its inception in 1967, the IWP has hosted over 1,500 emerging and established poets, novelists, dramatists, essayists, and journalists from more than 150 countries. Its primary goal is to introduce talented writers to the writing community at the University of Iowa, and to provide for the writers a period of optimal conditions for their creative work.
