Bernhard Danckelmann
Bernhard Engelbert Joseph Danckelmann (5 April 1831, at the ''Forsthaus Obereimer'' near Arnsberg – 19 January 1901, in Eberswalde) was a German forester and forest scientist. Life He studied forestry at the Eberswalde Forest Academy (''Forstakademie'') in 1850–52, and later studied law at the University of Berlin (1855–56). From 1862 he worked as an ''Oberförster'' in Hambach, and two years later became a forest inspector in Potsdam. In 1866 he was appointed director of the Forest Academy in Eberswalde. From 1869 he was editor of th''Zeitschrift für Forst und Jagdwesen''("Journal of Forestry and Gamekeeping"). Forstbotanischer Garten Eberswalde
The Forstbotanischer Garten Eberswalde (8 hectares) is a botanical garden and arboretum located at Am Zainhammer 5, Eberswalde, Brandenburg, Germany. It is open daily without charge. The garden was established in 1830 as part of the Royal Prussian Higher Forestry College by Friedrich Wilhelm Leopold Pfeil (1783-1859) with Wilhelm von Humboldt (1767-1835). By 1835 its plant list included more than 600 types of trees. Between 1868 and 1874, under the direction of Bernhard Danckelmann (1831-1901), the garden moved to its current location. It was severely damaged during World War II but restored in subsequent years. Today the garden contains over 1200 native and exotic trees and shrubs, with major sections including perennial flower beds; a root laboratory; alpine garden; African and East Asian gardens; trial garden; systematic garden; herb garden; and a Salicetum containing 230 types of willow trees. Rudolf Vierhaus
Rudolf Vierhaus (29 October 1922 – 13 November 2011) was a German historian who mainly researched the Early modern period. He had been a professor at the newly founded Ruhr University Bochum since 1964. From 1971, he was director of the in Göttingen. He became known for his research on the Age of Enlightenment. Life Born in Wanne-Eickel, the son of a coalminer was the first of his family to attend the Oberrealschule and passed his Abitur in 1941. In the same year, he was called up for military service. As a lieutenant, he was seriously wounded in the battle with American troops at the Moselle in autumn 1944. Vierhaus was captured in Marburg the following year. He spent the following years in military hospitals and clinics. It was not until 1949 that his state of health was reasonably restored.
