Bernhard Bendel
Bernhard Bendel (1908-1980) was a Catholic clergyman. He was the founder of Opus Spiritus Sancti. Biography Bernhard Bendel was born on October 20, 1908, in Steinefrenz in the southern Westerwald. Bernhard was the eldest of eleven children of Heinrich Georg Bendel and his wife Katharina, née Michel. His father ran an inn and was also a farmer. After attending elementary school and receiving private Latin lessons, Bernhard was enrolled in the lower third grade of the high school in Hadamar, located in the Westerwald. After six years, Bernhard Bendel graduated with a high school diploma in 1928. He then began his studies at the Philosophical-Theological College of Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt am Main. On December 8, 1933, he was ordained as a priest at the Limburg Cathedral by Bishop Antonius Hilfrich. Opus Spiritus Sancti
The Opus Spiritus Sancti, (literally meaning "Work of the Holy Spirit") is a Catholic organization originating from Germany. It consists of five institutes of consecrated life and societies of apostolic life, all dedicated to promoting the mission of the Holy Spirit through various religious and charitable works. History The organization was founded by Father Bernhard Bendel in 1950 at Königstein im Taunus, Germany, who was then a priest of the diocese of Roman Catholic Diocese of Limburg, Limburg, Germany, and the pastor at the village of Mammolshain. Members of these institutes or societies append the initials 'O.S.S.' to their names. In October 1949, Bendel discussed the founding of a sisterhood with the then Vicar General of the Diocese of Limburg, Georg Höhle. Limburg Cathedral
Limburg Cathedral (, also known as ''Georgsdom'' ("George's Cathedral") after its dedication to Saint George, is located above the old town of Limburg in Hesse, Germany. It is the cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Limburg. Its high location on a rock above the river Lahn provides its visibility from far away. It is the result of an Early Gothic modernization of an originally Early Romanesque building and therefore shows a Romanesque-Gothic transitional style. Antonius Hilfrich
Antonius Hilfrich (also Anton Hilfrich; 3 October 1873 – 5 February 1947) was a German priest and Roman Catholic Roman Catholic Diocese of Limburg, Bishop of Limburg, Germany. Ordained in 1898, in March 1930 he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Limburg and Titular Bishop of Sebastopolis in Armenia. In June 1930 he was ordained Titular Bishop of Sebastopolis in Armenia, and he became Bishop of Limburg that October.
