Berlinale 2005
The 55th annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 10 to 20 February 2005. ''Man to Man (2005 film), Man to Man'' by Régis Wargnier served as opening night film. The festival closed with ''Kinsey (film), Kinsey'' by Bill Condon. The Golden Bear was awarded to ''U-Carmen eKhayelitsha'' directed by Mark Dornford-May. The retrospective was dedicated to the Film crew, scene formers. It was titled ''Production Design + Film. Locations, Settings, Spaces'' and was divided into five sections and a total of 45 films were shown at the festival. Man To Man (2005 Film)
''Man to Man'' is a 2005 historical film, historical drama film directed by Régis Wargnier and starring Joseph Fiennes, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Iain Glen. The screenplay concerns a man in a team of Victorian scientists conducting research in Africa, who begins to have doubts about the human cost of their mission. It was scripted by William Boyd (writer), William Boyd. Plot In 1870, Victorian scientists capture a pygmy couple during an expedition in Central Africa. They are transported back to the United Kingdom for further study as part of research involving the theory of the evolution of man. However, the primitive outlook of the pygmies and the sophisticated methods used by the scientists, as well as the complications of adapting to a foreign environment, make their anthropological study more difficult. Nino Cerruti
Nino Cerruti (25 September 1930 – 15 January 2022) was an Italian businessman and stylist. He founded his own haute couture house, Cerruti 1881, in 1967 in Paris. He managed the Italian family business ''Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti'', which was founded in 1881 by his grandfather. Early life and career Cerruti was born in Biella, Italy, on 25 September 1930. He became the head of the family woollen business, after his father's untimely death. His grandfather had founded a textile mill in Biella in 1881 (''Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti''). Drawing from his experience in producing excellent fabrics, Cerruti ventured into the production of clothing in the late 1950s. His first men's collection, Hitman, was shown in 1957 and was considered a revolution in men's wear at the time. Christian Petzold (director)
Christian Petzold (born 1960) is a German film director and screenwriter. Petzold is part of the 21st century Berlin School (filmmaking), Berlin School film movement. His films have received international recognition and acclaim. He is known for his frequent collaborations with actresses Nina Hoss and Paula Beer. ''Gespenster'' is a 2005 German film directed by Christian Petzold. Petzold also cowrote the screenplay with Harun Farocki. The film was presented at the 2005 Berlin International Film Festival, where it was officially entered into competition. Plot The film portrays a day, a night and the following day in the life of a teenage orphan, Nina, who lives in a group home. Nina is shy, introverted and lives only in the past, which she tries to fabricate in her diary. Lajos Koltai
Lajos Koltai, ASC, HSC, (born 2 April 1946) is a Hungarian cinematographer and film director, best known for his work with directors István Szabó and Giuseppe Tornatore. His work in '' Malèna'' earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography. Early years and career Born at the beginning of the Cold War, he became interested in film at a very young age, though in Hungary at the time, film containing subversive content was heavily censored. He shot his first short on a Super 8 film camera at the age of 14 and began to draft short scripts and turn them into movies starring friends and family. Fateless (film)
''Fateless'' () is a Hungarian film directed by Lajos Koltai, released in 2005. It is based on the semi-autobiographical novel '' Fatelessness'' by the Nobel Prize winner Imre Kertész, who also wrote the screenplay. It tells the story of a teenage boy who is sent to Auschwitz and Buchenwald. The film's music was composed by Ennio Morricone, and one of its songs was sung by Lisa Gerrard. David Mackenzie (director)
David Hugh Mackenzie (born 10 May 1966) is a Scottish film director and co-founder of the Glasgow-based production company Sigma Films.
