Berifi Afari Apenteng
Berifi Afari Apenteng is a Ghanaian lawyer, journalist, and civil servant. He was the Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation from 2011 to 2013. Education Apenteng had his secondary education at Mfantsipim School and Labone Senior High School. He then proceeded to the University of Ghana to study Modern History and Archeology, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree (combined honours) in 1974. In 1976, he obtained a graduate diploma from the School of Journalism and Communications, University of Ghana. He later enrolled at the Ghana School of Law where he was called to the bar in 1981. Apenteng holds Executive MBA degree from the University of Ghana Business School, he was also a John S. Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University. The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) was established by law in 1968 with a triple mandate as a State Broadcaster, Public Service Broadcaster, and a Commercial Broadcaster in Ghana. Headquartered in the capital city, Accra, it is funded by grants, broadcasting television commercials and the levying of a television licence, costing 36 cedis and 60 cedis for one or more TV sets in the same house every year. Mfantsipim School Alumni
Mfantsipim is an all-boys boarding secondary school in Cape Coast, Ghana, established by the Methodist Church in 1876 to foster intellectual, moral, and spiritual growth on the then Gold Coast. Its founding name was Wesleyan High School and the first headmaster was James Picot, a French scholar, who was only 18 years old on his appointment. After changing its name to Wesleyan Collegiate School and Richmond College, the school, in 1905, merged with another Cape-Coast-based public high school established by John Mensah Sarbah (an old student of Wesley High School), who had established his own school called "Mfantsipim" as a rival of the Methodist-run school. John Mensah Sarbah died five years after the merger, at the age of 46, leaving the school wholly in the hands of the Methodist Church.
