Bergring Arena (speedway)
The Bergring Arena formerly the Kellerholz Arena is a 18,000-capacity multi-use stadium in Teterow, Germany. It hosts one of the rounds of the Speedway Grand Prix, which is the premier world event in motorcycle speedway. The speedway track is located adjacent to the famous (mountain ring). History The stadium opened on 18 May 2002 as the Kellerholz Arena and the speedway track has a circumference of 314 metres which cost €270,000 to lay. On 23 May 2010, the Arena was renamed the Bergring Arena, which was slightly confusing because the adjacent mountain ring circuit is also known as the Berging Arena. The stadium has been used as the venue for the World Championship round known as the Speedway Grand Prix of Germany from 2016 to 2019. In 2020, the Grand Prix did not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However the event made a return for the 2022 Speedway Grand Prix. Teterow () is a town of Germany, in the Rostock (district), district of Rostock, in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It is the geographical center of this federal state. Speedway Grand Prix
Speedway Grand Prix are a series of stand-alone motorcycle speedway events over the course of a season used to determine the Speedway World Champion. The series started in 1995 replacing the previous format of a single event final. The first winner was Hans Nielsen of Denmark. Event format The format for a Grand Prix changed for the 2007 season onwards. Sixteen riders take part in each Grand Prix and over the course of twenty heats each rider will race against every other rider once. The top eight scorers advance to a semi-final and from each semi-final the 1st and 2nd placed riders will advance to the GP final. In this format all rides counted towards Grand Prix points totals, including the semi-final and final, the maximum points for a single GP is 21 (5x heat wins, semi final win and final win). 2022 Speedway Grand Prix
The 2022 Speedway Grand Prix season was the 28th season of the Speedway Grand Prix era, and decided the 77th FIM Speedway World Championship. It was the first series promoted by Discovery Sports Events. Artem Laguta was the reigning champion, having won the 2021 title. However, due to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, he and Emil Sayfutdinov did not return as all Russian and Belarusian riders had been suspended and were barred from participating in any FIM-sanctioned events. Bartosz Zmarzlik won the championship, claiming a third world title. Leon Madsen finished as runner-up, with Maciej Janowski taking the last spot on the podium.
