Bergen National Opera () is a Norwegian opera company based in Bergen. The company has its administrative headquarters at the ''Grieghallen''. History Originally called ''Den Nye Opera'' (the new opera), Bergen National Opera was established as a foundation in 2005 by the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Den Nationale Scene, Grieg Hall, Grieghallen and the Bergen International Festival. In 2007, Opera Vest became a part of the foundation, which aims to be the regional opera company for Western Norway. The company adopted the name ''Bergen Nasjonale Opera'' in 2012. The foundation is supported by the Ministry of Culture (Norway), Ministry of Culture, the Vestland county, the city of Bergen, and private supporters. Grieg Hall () is a 1,500 seat concert hall located on Edvard Griegs' square in Bergen, Norway, Bergen, Norway. Grieghallen was named in honor of Bergen-born composer Edvard Grieg, who served as music director of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra from 1880 until 1882. It serves as the home of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. The building was designed in modernist architecture style by the Danish architect Knud Munk. Bergen (, ) is a city and municipalities of Norway, municipality in Vestland county on the Western Norway, west coast of Norway. Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra
The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra ( Norwegian: Bergen filharmoniske orkester) is a Norwegian orchestra based in Bergen. Its principal concert venue is the Grieg Hall. History Established in 1765 under the name ''Det Musicalske Selskab'' (The Musical Society), it later changed its name to ''Musikselskabet Harmonien''. Bergen citizens often refer to the ensemble as "Harmonien" (the Harmony). After World War I, there was strong interest in the major Norwegian cities of Bergen and Kristiania (later Oslo) in having larger orchestras. Den Nationale Scene () is the largest theatre in Bergen, Norway. Den Nationale Scene is also one of the oldest permanent theatres in Norway. History Opened under the name '' Det Norske Theater'' in 1850, the theatre has roots dating back to its founding on the initiative of the Norwegian violinist Ole Bull. The theatre was created to develop Norwegian playwrights. Bergen International Festival () is an annual international music and cultural festival in Bergen, Norway. In Spring 2022, Lars Petter Hagen took over as festival director.
