Berel Lang
Berel Lang (born November 13, 1933) is an American professor emeritus of philosophy and an author. His research interests include political philosophy, ethics, aesthetics, literary theory. A considerable amount of his work is devoted to The Holocaust. Born in Norwich, Connecticut, he earned his B.A. from Yale University (1954); Ph.D. in philosophy, Columbia University (1961, thesis: ''The Cognitive Significance of Art''); he took additional studies at Indiana University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was a professor of philosophy at the University of Colorado from 1961 to 1983 and at the State University of New York at Albany from 1983 to 1997. In 1997 he became professor of humanities at Trinity College (Connecticut) Trinity College is a private liberal arts college in Hartford, Connecticut. Berel Lazar
Shlomo Dov Pinchas Lazar (born May 19, 1964), better known as Berel Lazar, is an Orthodox, Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic rabbi. He began his service in Russia in 1990. Known for his friendship with Vladimir Putin, since 2000, he has been a Chief Rabbi of Russia (one of two claimants to the title), and chairman of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia and Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS. In September 2005 Lazar became a member of the Public Chamber of Russia. Because of his connections to Russian President Vladimir Putin he is sometimes called "Putin's rabbi." Biography A native of Milan, Italy, Lazar was born in 1964 to parents who were among the first emissaries of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson. Dov Schwartzman
Dov Schwartzman (1921 – 7 November 2011), also called Berel Schwartzman, was a Russian-born American Haredi Jewish rabbi, educator, Talmudic scholar, and ''rosh yeshiva'' (dean) of Bais Hatalmud, which he founded in the Sanhedria Murhevet neighborhood of Jerusalem and led for over 40 years. He also founded and led the Talmudical Yeshiva of Philadelphia together with Rabbi Shmuel Kamenetzky, and co-founded the first yeshiva in Israel for ''baalei teshuva'' (returnees to the Jewish faith). Berel Soloveitchik
Berel (Yosef Dov) Soloveichik (1915–1981) was a rabbi and the son of Rabbi Yitzchak Zev Soloveichik and one of the leading Rosh Yeshivas ("heads of the yeshiva") of the Brisk yeshivas in Jerusalem. He was a first cousin to Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik, who was named after the Beis HaLevi, like himself. Rabbi Soloveichik was succeeded as Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Brisk in Jerusalem by his son Rabbi Avraham Yehoshua Soloveichik. Berel Wein
Berel Wein (born March 25, 1934) is an American-born Orthodox rabbi, lecturer and writer. He authored several books, in both Hebrew and English (the latter published by Artscroll), concerning Jewish history and popularized the subject through more than 1,000 audio tapes, newspaper articles and international lectures. Throughout his career, he has retained personal and ideological ties to both Modern Orthodox and Haredi Judaism. Family Wein was born March 25, 1934 in Chicago to a family descended from Lithuanian rabbis. His father, Rabbi Zev Wein, emigrated to the United States and served as a Rabbi in Chicago until the 1970s. In 1955 he married Yocheved (Jackie) Levin, who had been born in Lithuania, in 1934 and had emigrated to Detroit with her parents at the age of 4.
