Berchem
Berchem () is a southern Districts of Antwerp, district of the municipality and city of Antwerp in the Flemish Region of Belgium. Berchem is located along the old ''Grote Steenweg'' (Dutch language, Dutch for 'Big Paved Road') that has connected Brussels to Antwerp for several centuries; the town borders the districts of Deurne, Belgium, Deurne, Borgerhout, Wilrijk and Antwerp (district), Antwerp and the municipality of Mortsel. Berchem itself consists of three Quarter (country subdivision), quarters, ''Oud Berchem'', ''Groenenhoek'' and ''Nieuw Kwartier''. Antwerpen-Berchem railway station (; ) is a railway station in Berchem, in the south of Antwerp, Belgium. The station opened on 1 March 1865 and currently serves railway lines Belgian railway line 25, 25, Belgian railway line 27, 27, Belgian railway line 27A, 27A and Belgian railway line 59, 59. The Antwerp tramway network () is a network of tramways forming part of the public transport system in Antwerp, a city in the Flemish Region of Belgium. The Flemish Tram and Bus Museum ( Dutch: Vlaams Tram- en Autobusmuseum, abbreviated as VlaTAM) is a museum of public transport that exhibits historical trams and buses. The museum is situated in the Berchem district of Antwerp, in the former tram shed of Groenenhoek, dating from 1912. History In 1961, the Tram Museum Association was founded by a group of tram enthusiasts, who in 1962, opened the Buurtspoorwegmuseum, in Schepdaal. As this collection grew a second museum, initially known as the Antwerp Tram and Bus Museum, was opened in Edegem. The tramshed in which the museum is currently housed ceased to be used in 1996, with the collection from Edegem being moved over in 2000, to allow it to be opened as a museum on 5 May 2001. Tram route 4 is an above ground tram route in the city of Antwerp, Belgium. The route runs between the Kioskplaats in the suburb of Hoboken in the South, and the Silsburg cemetery on the Deurne/Wommelgem border in the East. R1 Ring Road (Belgium)
The R1 is the ring road around the city of Antwerp, Belgium. The ring road is not complete; however, its completion is planned with the long running proposed construction of the Oosterweel Link which would cross the Scheldt river. The existing Scheldt crossing is via the Kennedy Tunnel. The road is largely built on the area of the former Henri Alexis Brialmont, Brialmont Fortress around the city of Antwerp, which was constructed between 1859 and 1863. Wilrijk (; former, original spelling: ''Wilrijck'') is a district of the municipality and city of Antwerp in the Belgian province of Antwerp. Wilrijk had been a separate municipality before January 1, 1983; the enlarged municipality of Antwerp was decentralized in 2000 and Wilrijk became one of the city's nine districts.
