Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sports, amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball, and GAA rounders. Clara GAA
Clara GAA () is a Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the small parish of Clara in County Kilkenny, Ireland. Focused mainly on hurling and camogie, the dominant sports in the county, Clara's greatest achievements to date are victories in the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship in 1986 2013, and in 2015 they secured their third title. Despite limited success at county level, Clara has produced several hurlers who have gone on play at inter-county level for Kilkenny. All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship
The All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship was a hurling competition organized by the Gaelic Athletic Association in Ireland. The competition was originally contested by the second teams of the strong counties, and the first teams of the weaker counties. In the years from 1961 to 1973 and from 1997 until now, the strong counties have competed for the All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Championship instead. The competition was then restricted to the weaker counties. The competition was discontinued after 2004 as these counties now compete for the Nicky Rackard Cup instead. From 1974 to 1982, the original format of the competition was abandoned, and the competition was incorporated in Division 3 of the National Hurling League. Liam Simpson
Liam Gerard Simpson (born 21 June 1966) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Bennettsbridge and was also a member of the Kilkenny senior hurling team. He usually lined out as a corner-back. Career Simpson first came to prominence at juvenile and underage levels with the Bennettsbridge club, however, his early sporting life was dominated by soccer. As a centre half of sweeper with his local club East End, he won every honour in the Kilkenny and District League. At imter-county level, Simpson was overlooked for the Kilkenny minor and under-21 teams, however, he won an All-Ireland Junior Championship title in 1990. This success saw him drafted on to the Kilkenny senior hurling team in advance of the 1990-91 league. The Kilkenny County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (Kilkenny GAA) () is one of the 32 County board (Gaelic games), county boards of the GAA in Ireland and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Kilkenny. The county board has its head office and main grounds at Nowlan Park and is also responsible for Kilkenny county teams in all codes at all levels. The Kilkenny branch of the Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in 1887. Paddy Moran (hurler)
Patrick Moran (born 1939) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a midfielder for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Bennettsbridge, County Kilkenny, Moran first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St. Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team. He made his senior debut during the 1961 championship. Moran subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won four All-Ireland medals, five Leinster medals and one National Hurling League medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on three occasions. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions Moran won three Railway Cup medals. At club level he is an eight-time championship medallist with Bennettsbridge. Throughout his career Moran made 26 championship appearances. 1967 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship of 1967 was the 81st staging of Ireland's premier hurling knock-out competition. Kilkenny won the championship, beating Tipperary 3-8 to 2-7 in the final at Croke Park, Dublin. Format The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was run on a provincial basis as usual. Jim Treacy
James Treacy (born 1943) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a left corner-back for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Bennettsbridge, County Kilkenny, Treacy first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty when he first linked up with the Kilkenny senior team. He joined the team during the 1963 championship. Treacy went on to play a key role over the next decade, winning four All-Ireland medals, eight Leinster medals and one National Hurling League medal. He captained the team to the All-Ireland title in 1967. At club level Treacy is a five-time championship medallist with Bennettsbridge. His brother, Martin Treacy, also enjoyed All-Ireland success with Kilkenny. Throughout his career Treacy made 30 championship appearances. He retired from inter-county following the conclusion of the 1975 championship. The Texaco Hurler of the Year was a hurling award, created in 1958, that honoured the achievements of a hurler of outstanding excellence. The award was part of the Texaco Sportstars Awards, in which Irish sportspeople from all fields were honoured. The award was presented annually to the hurler considered to have performed the best over the previous year in the Hurling Championship.
