Benjamin Jones (congressman)
Benjamin Jones (April 13, 1787 – April 24, 1861) was a U.S. Representative from Ohio for two terms from 1833 to 1837. Biography Born in Winchester, Virginia, Jones moved with his parents to Washington, Pennsylvania. He received a limited schooling. He learned the trade of cabinetmaking. He moved to Wooster, Ohio, in 1812 and engaged in mercantile pursuits. He was a Justice of the Peace in 1815, and commissioner for Wayne County in 1818. He served in the Ohio House of Representatives in 1821–1822, and in the Ohio Senate from 1829 to 1832. Ohio Presidential elector in 1828 for Andrew Jackson. Benjamin Franklin Jones (industrialist)
Benjamin Franklin Jones (August 8, 1824 – May 19, 1903) was a pioneer of the iron and steel industry in Pittsburgh, United States. Originally involved in the river barge industry, he purchased a share in American Iron Works in 1851, along with Bernard Lauth. He later joined with James H. Laughlin to form Jones and Laughlin Steel Company, a steel mill heavily dependent on river transportation. The B.F. Jones Memorial Library in Aliquippa Pennsylvania, the site of J&L Steel's Aliquippa Works, was built in his honor with funds donated by his daughter. Biography He was born on August 8, 1824, in Claysville, Pennsylvania. He married Mary McMasters and together they had a son, Benjamin Franklin Jones Jr. From 1884 to 1888 he was chairman of the Republican National Committee. Benjamin Jones (9 September 1847 – 2 March 1942) was a British co-operative and political activist. Born in Salford, Jones left school at the age of nine to work for a cabinet maker. While working as an errand boy, he studied at Owens College and the Manchester Mechanics' Institute, and managed to gain promotion to become a book-keeper. In 1866 was appointed as assistant book-keeper to the Manchester Co-operative Wholesale Society (CWS). Benjamin Franklin Jones Cottage
The Benjamin Franklin Jones Cottage (also known as Braemar Cottage) is a cottage on the National Register of Historic Places in Cresson Township, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, United States. In 1990, the mansion was purchased by a group that desired to restore it. In November 2009, a county judge declared the declining property a nuisance and ordered that it be demolished. When the historical group appealed to the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court, the town supervisors agreed to postpone the demolition until May 2010. A request for a $150,000 grant that the group hoped could fund renovations was rejected. The structure was saved from demolition in 2011 when it was purchased by a Cresson, Pennsylvania couple who intended to restore it. Benjamin Franklin Jones (December 31, 1869 – September 26, 1935) was an American jurist and Republican Party politician who served as the Speaker of the New Jersey General Assembly in 1900. Jones was born in Brooklyn in 1869, the son of Rev. John Jones and Elizabeth Holland. He was educated at Public School 10 and Brooklyn High School. He attended New York University, receiving a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1895 and a Master of Laws degree two years later. He was admitted to the New York bar in 1897. He then moved to Maplewood, New Jersey, and became involved in Republican politics. In 1899 he was elected to the General Assembly from Essex County. Benjamin Felt Jones (born 1972) is an American economist and professor at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. Jones's research is mainly focused on innovation and economic development. He has worked as an economic advisor in the U.S. Treasury and the White House. Education and early career Jones graduated from Princeton University in 1995 with a B.S.E in Aerospace Engineering. He received there the Pyne Prize. Jones was then a Rhodes Scholar at Magdalen College, Oxford University, receiving an MPhil in Economics in 1997.
