Bengal Chess Association
The Bengal Chess Association (BCA) is the apex body for the game of chess in West Bengal, India. It was formed on 2012 after the West Bengal Chess Association was dissolved. It is affiliated to the All India Chess Federation. History The erstwhile West Bengal ''Ad Hoc'' Committee, was given an elected form on 3 January 2012, where Sanjoy Sureka was elected president. The state body, West Bengal Chess Association was dissolved, as it failed to implement the Calcutta High Court's order, given on July 6, 1993 to conduct election within two weeks. Dibyendu Barua, the election officer and the Vice-President of the AICF, held the elections and elected the members of the organisation. Chess
Chess is a board game for two players, called White and Black, each controlling an army of chess pieces in their color, with the objective to checkmate the opponent's king. All India Chess Federation
The All India Chess Federation (AICF) is central administrative body for the game of chess in India. Founded in 1951, the federation is affiliated to Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE), the world body for chess. The AICF has produced Viswanathan Anand, Nihal Sarin, Pentala Harikrishna, Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa and Vidit Santosh Gujrathi and many other grandmasters. The organisation is also in charge of managing women's chess in India. AICF's current headquarter is in New Delhi. History The All India Chess Federation was registered in 12 December 1958 and was registered as a Society under the Societies Registration act of 1860. In August 2022, AICF hosted the 44th Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India, which was the first Chess Olympiad ever to take place in the country. Dibyendu Barua
Dibyendu Barua (born 27 October 1966) is an Indian chess grandmaster. He is a three-time Indian Chess Champion. He was the second Indian, after Viswanathan Anand, second Bengali after Niaz Murshed, and third South Asian after Niaz and Anand to achieve the title of chess grandmaster. Chess career Barua is from Kolkata in the Indian state of West Bengal. In 1978, Barua, as a 12-year-old, became the youngest participant in the Indian Chess Championship. In 1982, Barua defeated the then-world number two ranked Viktor Korchnoi in London.
