Bendyshe Layton

	Bendyshe Layton Bendyshe Layton (died 17 January 1918) was a British businessman and member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong. He was with the firm of Gibb, Livingston & Co., one of the leading trading firms in the East during the late nineteenth century. He later started his own business firm, Layton & Co., as a bill and bullion broker. 	Gibb, Livingston & Co Gibb, Livingston & Co., known in Chinese as Jinkee or Renji, was one of the most important and best-known foreign trading firms in China in the late 19th and the first half of the 20th century. Gibb, Livingston & Co. was established on 1July 1836 in Canton (Guangzhou), by two Scotsmen, Thomas Augustus Gibb and William Potter Livingston, who were originally employees of the British East India Company. and moved to Macao during the First Opium War. 	Alexander Palmer MacEwen Alexander Palmer MacEwen (1846–1919) was a British businessman in China and member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong. Biography MacEwen was head of the Holiday, Wise & Co., agent and member on the consulting committee of the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank, Jardine, Matheson & Co. and Union Insurance Society of Canton.
