Bendigo Football League
The Bendigo Football Netball League (previously known as the Bendigo and District Football Association, Bendigo Football Association and Bendigo Football League) is an Australian rules football and netball competition based in the Bendigo region of Victoria (Australia), Victoria. Formed on 10 June 1881 by the city's three clubs as the Sandhurst Football Association, it is one of the oldest football leagues in Australia, and among its members are some of the oldest football clubs in Australia, including the Castlemaine Football Club, acknowledged as the second oldest football club in Australia and one of the oldest football club, oldest in the world. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an Australian rules football playing field, oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the Football (ball)#Australian rules football, oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). Golden Square, Victoria
Golden Square is a suburb of Bendigo in Victoria (state), Victoria, Australia. Its local government area is the City of Greater Bendigo. At the 2021 Australian census, 2021 census, Golden Square had a population of 9,220. History Gold was discovered in the bed of the Bendigo Creek in the spring of 1851, about 200 metres from where the Golden Square Hotel now stands, sparking the gold rush that established the Australian city of Bendigo. Two women, Mrs Kennedy and Mrs Farrell, are commonly credited with having made the discovery. Eaglehawk Football Club
The Eaglehawk Football Netball Club is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Eaglehawk, Victoria and have competed in every BFL season since the league began in 1880, with the exception of 1904. Eaglehawk teams currently compete in the Bendigo Football Netball League (BFNL). Eaglehawk drew level with Sandhurst in 2007 when they won their 26th premiership. The Castlemaine Football Netball Club, nicknamed '' The Magpies'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia and is currently a member of the Bendigo Football League. The club is notable for several reasons. Formed in 1859, it is the second oldest documented football club in Australia after the Melbourne Football Club and it has produced many notable Australian rules footballers. The Broadford Football Netball Club, nicknamed the '' Roos'', is an Australian rules football and netball club and located 88 km north of Melbourne in the town of Broadford and is affiliated with the AFL Outer East. The Riddell District Football Netball League (RDFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball league in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. The RDFNL covers towns in the Shire of Macedon Ranges, Macedon Ranges and an area from Melton, Victoria, Melton in the south to Kyneton, Victoria, Kyneton and Lancefield, Victoria, Lancefield in the north. The Kyneton Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Tigers'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Kyneton, Victoria. Kyneton teams currently compete in the Riddell District Football League. The club transferred there after the 2023 season. History It has been said that Kyneton was the Victorian town where the first organised regional football match was contested, although other records indicate that a game was played at Castlemaine in June 1859.
