Ben Wang
Ben Wang () is an American materials scientist who specializes in materials engineering, applying emerging technologies to improve the manufacturing of affordable composite materials. He is a professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology's H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, holds the Eugene C. Gwaltney, Jr. Chair in Manufacturing, and is the Executive Director of the Georgia Tech Manufacturing Institute. Education Wang earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Tunghai University in Taiwan, and later master's and Ph.D. degrees, also in industrial engineering, from Pennsylvania State University. Career He was a Professor of Engineering, Director of the High-Performance Materials Institute, and served as Assistant Vice-President for Research in Engineering at Florida State University. SME (previously the Society of Manufacturing Engineers) is a non-profit student and professional association for educating and advancing the manufacturing industry in North America. History SME was founded in January 1932 at the height of the Great Depression. Originally named the Society of Tool Engineers, and renamed the American Society of Tool Engineers one year later, it was formed by a group of 33 engineers and mechanics gathered at the Detroit College of Applied Science. The Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE) is an international professional member society. SAMPE provides a global forum for information, education, and professional fellowship on materials and processes development. History SAMPE was formed by nine aerospace professionals from Southern California who were concerned with the lack of materials and need to economize. They formed a network of material and process engineers to provide a means for information exchange and to prevent the duplication of effort among companies working toward a common goal.
