Ben Moore (snowboarder)
Ben Moore (born 3 January 1986) is a British snowboarder. He is competing at the 2018 Winter Paralympics in snowboarding events for athletes with upper limb disabilities having lost the use of his left arm after a motorbike accident in 2006. Moore was a keen skateboarder before he had his accident. He qualified and started work as a snowboard instructor in Canada after being inspired to take up the sport during a holiday in Bulgaria. Moore missed the bus to work one day and, rather than waiting for the next one, decided to hitchhike instead. This led to a chance encounter with competitive snowboarders who gave him the idea of competing himself. Moore began competing and achieved success when he won bronze in the banked slalom SB-UL 2017 Para Snowboard World Championships in Big White Ski Resort, Canada. The most common types of athletics competitions are track and field, road running, cross country running, and racewalking. Hitchhiking (also known as thumbing, autostop or hitching) is a means of transportation that is gained by asking individuals, usually strangers, for a ride in their car or other vehicle. The ride is usually, but not always, free. Nomads have also used hitchhiking as a primary mode of travel for the better part of the last century, and continue to do so today. Banked Slalom
Snowboard racing is a form of snowboarding where competitors attempt to obtain the fastest time down a course. Snowboard racing can be done against the clock, or by two or more competitors racing in a head-to-head format. The current Olympic snowboarding racing events are parallel giant slalom, parallel slalom and snowboard cross. Governing body World tour events in snowboard racing are hosted by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS). The FIS currently organises both a world cup tour and a world championship for each of the Olympic snowboard racing events (parallel giant slalom, parallel slalom and snowboard cross). The International Snowboard Federation was the former governing body. The struggling International Snowboard Federation does not currently host a world tour in any snowboard racing format, but it is possible that it may host a tour for banked slalom in coming years. Big White Ski Resort
Big White Ski Resort, or simply Big White, is a ski resort located southeast of Kelowna in the Southern Interior of British Columbia. It is located on Big White Mountain, the highest summit in the Okanagan Highland, an upland area between the Monashee Mountains and the Okanagan Valley. Owen Pick
Owen Pick (born 7 September 1991) is a British war veteran and snowboarder. Pick was injured in 2010 while serving in Afghanistan, losing his right leg. As part of his rehabilitation he was encouraged to try various sports. He subsequently found success in world para-snowboarding events, including representing his country in the Winter Olympics in his sport and as a flag bearer. Biography Pick is originally from Cambridge, United Kingdom. He lost his right leg in January 2010 while serving with the British Army in Afghanistan. He had joined the Royal Anglian Regiment straight after leaving school and was 18 when he stood on an improvised explosive device (IED). The explosion caused significant damage to his leg and doctors battled to save it until Pick decided in August 2011 to have it amputated below the knee. James Barnes-Miller (born 31 August 1989) is a British snowboarder from Isle of Thanet. He competes in snowboarding events for athletes with upper limb disabilities after being born with an incomplete right arm.
