Belfast Roller Derby (BRD) is a flat track roller derby league based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Founded in January 2010, the league consists of two teams that play teams from other leagues, and is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History Belfast Roller Derby was founded in 2010, by skater Hannah Whitall (derby name Hannahbolic Steroids). With increasing interest in the sport throughout the UK, helped by the release of the film ''Whip It (film), Whip It'' in 2009, the league was able to arrange training with skaters from Dublin Roller Derby, Dublin and Glasgow Roller Derby, Glasgow. BRD was the first roller derby league in Northern Ireland, founded six months after Dublin Roller Derby, the first league in Ireland. BRD played its first home bout in December 2011 as an intraleague competition with the Titanic Titans and the Hellfast City Hit-Girls. In 2018, Belfast City Rockets merged with the league. Women's Flat Track Derby Association Rankings
Rankings for the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) are used to determine placement in overall standings (rather than win–loss record) and also to determine seedings at WFTDA Playoffs. Achieving high rankings is also a goal for teams aiming to increase their stature in the organization. Each year at the end of June, teams are seeded into Division 1 and Division 2 playoff tournaments. Historically, the top 40 teams in the WFTDA as of June 30 were eligible for Division 1 tournaments that season, and the teams ranked 41–60 were eligible for Division 2 tournaments. For 2017, the Division 1 cutoff was reduced to the top 36 teams, with the next 16 teams qualifying for Division 2 Playoffs. Liverpool Roller Birds (LRB) are a flat-track roller derby team based in Liverpool, Merseyside. They joined the United Kingdom Roller Derby Association (UKRDA) in 2015, and became a member of the WFTDA Apprentice Program in December 2018. The Dolly Rockit Rollers (DRR) are a flat track roller derby league based in Leicestershire, England. Formed in January 2010, they are members of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), which they joined in July 2014. Birmingham Blitz Dames (BBD) was a women's flat track roller derby league based in Birmingham in England. Founded in 2006, the league was a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History BBD was founded in October 2006 by American transplant Brenda Bentley (Bee Sting née Iva Issues), who introduced roller derby to the West Midlands.
