He was one of the first Música popular brasileira, MPB singers from the Northeast Region, Brazil, Brazilian northeast to reach mainstream success, in the early 1970s. His 1976 album ''Alucinação'' [] is considered by many critics to be the single most influential album in the history of Música popular brasileira, MPB, and one of the most important music albums ever published in Brazil.
